Santo Domingo.- The Tourism and Culture ministries will work jointly to diversify the tourist and cultural offer and raise Dominican Republic’s competitiveness at the local, municipal and regional level, through the restoration of colonial-era attractions.
Those actions, according to an agreement signed yesterday, seek to promote Dominican develop tourism by conserving, protecting and promoting the country’s resources and culture in their diverse manifestations.
The Tourism and Culture ministers, Felix Jiménez and Jose Rafael Lantigua, said they’ll work to improve and provide lighting in six monuments in the Colonial Zone, as well as cultural celebrations.
They’ll also refurbish the colonial-era sugar mills at Engombe, Diego Caballero and Nigua, the ruins of Santiago, in Jacagua, and La Vega Vieja, in Rio Verde. The agreement also includes the construction of a theme park and restoration of the Spanish settlement Villa Isabela to its original condition.
