Santo Domingo.– It's peak travel time for the next few days, and that means a lack of discount airfares, but they are still out there if you're willing to widen your horizons. For example, $184, round-trip, will buy you a lovely trip from San Juan (SJU) down to Samana (AZS) in the Dominican Republic.

American Airlines is the carrier, and 11:59pm (Central Time) tomorrow (Friday, December 28) is the deadline to take advantage of this and a couple of other weekend Dominican deals from AA.

The travel opportunity is narrow: depart anytime from Wednesday, January 2, through Friday, January 4. Then, return anytime the following Monday through Wednesday (January 7-9).
