Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic made the top five in the list of top wedding destinations for Britons, travel company Thomas Cook reported.

Although coastal resorts are still proving popular for those wanting to tie the knot overseas, a growing number are now looking for something different for their nuptials, said. Romantic castles, islands and ancient hilltop villages are among the more popular choices.

Italy has been catapulted up to fourth place in the list of top wedding destinations for Britons wanting to marry abroad.

The top destination is Cyprus, followed by Greece, Cuba, Italy and the Dominican Republic. For honeymoons Mauritius is number one.

Thomas Cook is also predicting that the number of people in parties opting for weddings overseas is set to grow, due to the cost of getting married in the UK.

Two of the most popular wedding venues for its customers are Malcesine Castle in Italy and Palazzo Parisio in Malta.

Well, with such beaches and beautiful nature who wouldn't want his wedding here? I applaud this report because for once the DR has been judged accordingly.

The tourists who wish to get married in DR are finding that the increase in costs are opting for other destinations. Thanks LF you did it again.

sorry Caudillo, but Ladronel is right. the cost of a wedding has almost quadrupled in the last two years; the dr enjoyed great popularity all over, but they chose to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. the statistics you are looking at are for thomas cook, who push the dr very hard, because of their connections with playa dorada, etc. when the americans stop coming, the crap will hit the fan. no disrespect intended to the europeans, but they are not the big spenders that americans are. a lot of the all-inclusive hotels, which are dirt cheap, will be host to some of these wedding parties, and will receive good package deals. but there are no big spenders here, so the numbers are misleading

Just wait until Cuba opens for the Americans. The americans will stop coming here for sure.

you can have a holiday here and a wedding as long as you are in your bed at 24:00

Most of the (last few) tourists left in the south are planning to go to another destination for that reason as well
