SANTO DOMINGO.- The group Central Romana yesterday announced the construction of the five star hotel Four Seasons de Casa de Campo Resort, at a cost of 120 million dollars.

Central Romana aims to establish the Caribbean region’s best tourism complex and to attract high-end tourists to the country.

Eddy Creed, one of the hotel chain Four Seasons’ founders, said the new, 200 room hotel would be built on 67 acres and have 3,100 feet of beachfront.

The “super suites” will cost 10,200 dollars per night and will have five rooms, a private swimming pool, gym, offices, spa and other amenities, the hotelier said.

Tourism minister Felix Jiménez said this investment is an accomplishment for the hotel industry and the country’s image abroad, since it buries the vision that the country offers only low cost tourism, supported by the "all inclusive" system.

The architect Diego Villaseñor designed the exclusive hotel complex, said the magazine Architectural Design, which said it’s among the world’s 50 best. The complex is slated to open in the winter of 2009 more and will be one of that company’s 74 hotels in 31 countries.

Creed said this investment was possible by the facilities which the Tourism Ministry provided.

This is huge for the DR.

The Four Seasons is the best hotel group in the world, and for it to locate in the Dominican Republic speaks loudly for what the DR has to offer.

Thank you Four Seasons for locating in the Dominican Republic.

lorenzo is another of those folks who dont get it. not because some wealthy mogul parks his rolls royce in your driveway means that you are in for great times. it may very well be true that you have a nice, well paved piece of ground, but when you derive precious little in return, you are just spinning wheels. i am a little weary of all these guys who feel so proud that foreign interests choose to set up shop here. kinda like leonel building the metro. its all superficial.

something to point at and brag, but of very little concrete value.
its as if every time some foreigner declares his intent to buy another piece of the country some folks cheer loudly as if we won something. its not a popularity contest, and the folks buying in are the only ones who gain.the real estate markets in the developed countries are going to hell in a handbasket, which explains the mad rush by these external concerns to buy off other territories. at the rate at which this is currently

going ,there will be very little prime property owned by locals.the country will revert to colony status,as far as the average guy is concerned. a few crumbs will fall off the tables of the big wigs, who will be laid out in their hammocks over the verandah, waiting for belkis to bring them one more margarita and some finger food. foreign real estate brokers who live in the dr will be counting their largesse, while dominicans say, ''what a lovely jeepeta that is''

Mike 1:
I agree with you 100%: Between the foreigners investing as well as the Haitians moving in with the new kick of more sugar cane to be cut to supply La Romana for ETHANOL for the USA Fnally both are foreigners and nothing left for the DR citizens.
DR citizen will have no place to go but USA or EUROPE since
they don't cut cane for $2.00 a day. Going back to the colonial days,.the entire Island is going to be a sugar cane plantation.
DR should not built ethanol plant. Keep it in SA

As to the top 3 jobs going to the foreigners is a known fact . I
would say all the specialized jobs will .if DR does not create schooling for its citizen in the hotel field, not just management.
These people will import personnel from the smaller antilles that
have experience in all those jobs including Central & SA.
The gvt should make it mandatory that 90% of the jobs are to be performed by Dominican Citizens as in Mexico. This will decrease migration.Adjust a minimum national wage

i am agee with you mike. greetings gentlemen in fact it is the quite encouraging news but for that after frames but of a 60 percent of each earned dollar would be repatriate by those same investors who today present/display a big act to us of hope with building constrution of a luxurious hotel that in the long run only going to be screen for the rich ones which they visit to us since she cannot say that going to be one disdribucion equitable of the positions rather the high works but of the launching slips seran reserved for the foreings people that they really want to him to the investors who allege unwarrantedly that competent hand in the country does not exist when they are they themselves who limit the development of that competition that is disloyal and simultaneously stingy. on the other hand so that at least the state remained with a slice of taxes that never perhaps arrive at the citizen at least he is not what we see and feel not off on direct and specific way.
