Santo Domingo.– Most travel-industry folks concur that Cuba and the Dominican Republic are the least expensive destinations for Canadians and offer some truly lovely resorts with lots of activities to keep children occupied.

When assessing value, try to compare apples with apples, says Sue Cavallucci, a spokesperson for Air Canada Vacations. "Sometimes people comment that a four-star resort in Cuba doesn't compare to a four-star in the Turks and Caicos," she says.

"That's because the ratings are based on comparative standards of hotels at the same destination," she adds.
