There is an article on how many people that they laid off, you must look at the facts. The first nine months. That’s all the way up to September when the economic crisis was not publicized as much.

as GC rightfully observes, these numbers were compiled before the meltdown. there is an existential difference between then and now. people who had a 5000 dollar credit limit on their Visa card now have 3000 dollars. the interest rates are also higher, because their credit rating has changed. people with jobs today will be dropping like flies tomorrow. as we speak, mothers are devising alternative strategies for child care, which means loss of work for many providers in that field. but the worst problem is UNCERTAINTY. will i have a job next week? Circuit City is closing 155 stores; will my company do the same next month? consequently, people are holding on to their cash, just in case the crap hits the fan. they are not in a position anymore to put the airfare on their credit cards, we all have to brace for a bleak year ahead. hopefully, the government realises this. by the way, is there any such thing as a government economist here? i know there are many brilliant economists in

the country, but they all seem to be expending their energies writing opinion pieces in Listin Diario and El Diario. why does the government not hire some of these guys for a little guidance, to tell them, for instance, that you do not borrow 80 million dollars to finance recurrent expenditure which has already been incurred?

Hey guys and girls,
All you doomsday prophets, repent!
Like it was wisely said before, this island is for rich recurrent tourists that come to escape from.....cold weather,
play golf, yearly vacation, check out the señoritas and señoritos (by the Canucks) and so on and so forth.
We are used to calamity, scarcity, flooding, bad weather and havoc. We will still manage and have a presidente on Sunday at the colmado and maybe go on a weekend shopping trip on a yola. (True, some people go to PR in a fast yola on monday and come back on Sunday, no customs).
All is well in DR, the thieves and pirates are at their den like they have been for the last 500 years
and are going on strong!
Keep on trucking fellows...all is good. buy candles though there is little power in the island.
But if you go to the big resorts you hardly notice it unless you read it in the news!

The blonde in the corner selling aguacates in San Jose de Ocoa was a an undercover police officer!
I did get lucky with her though but she would not put on her uniform for me and model in
scarce attire.
After the fact I did get a lot of "friendly advise" from her. LOL.

i didn't leave any cinders smoking, I was just passing through. I can not lie and have to admit that I got lucky,
I am just a lucky guy I guess.
But no debris in SJO, I even pick up empty cans that other people throw in the streets.
I hate garbage, it it's ugly.

generoso, you mistake the intent of my post. i was simply requesting that you leave the village intact after your rampage. at no time was i suggesting that you would litter the place; wreckage was more in line with what i feared.
