I am afraid that this is another "Pipe Dream" project. $1.4 Billion? We will wait and see. They also mention other projects of $1.2 B by the Piniero Group in SPM/LR coastal area and $2.6 B with Punta Perla in Samana.(with the backing of HRM of Monaco). It is hard to believe all the big numbers, but what do I know? Was it not Javier Garcia (Tourism Minister), the fellow who stated $1.0 B for Cabarete a couple of months ago. I now believe these people don't have a clue what a BILLION Dollars are. They throw around these number to make themselves look important. Pinero Group's Samana properties are hurting, as is the Spanish economy. How and where is a second rate Hotel Developer going to get $1.0B + USD in today's economy. These are Fairy Tales!

I personnaly would like to know how they are investing. In 2003 Chavez froze all FOREX trading and placed limits on credit card spending to $2000 per year for purchases over the internet or when traveling outside of Venezuela. In order to obtain dollars for business or travel you must apply to CADIVI. No country (except on the black market) exchanges Venezuelan Bolivars for any other currency making them , in effect, worthless outside of Venezuela.

I must said whatever amount of money these venezuelans are investing does not come from venezuela. it come from those Rich folks that run to florida etc to escape chavez before chavez to total control. That's where the money is coming from. Also remember the value of the dollars so 1 billion now is nothing for an investment of that level.

Bernies,
The article says Venezuelans not "The government of Venezuela". My wife and I own a home in Puerto La Cruz Venezuela and we have a buyer for it-----Cant get the money out of the country. BTW she is Venezuelan. The Venezuelan government also does a tremendous amount of business with the US as well. Besides a resort for the "Rich Oligarchs and evil capitolists" is against the Chavez socialist agenda.
In regards to the Gas, if the price of oil does not make a dramatic climb, Petrocaribe is going to be in the Sh*t as it was based upon $65-75 dollar a barrel prices.

the perception gap between us is not as a result of my being so smart; it is because you are so ignorant. it is all relative. the difference us is that i put facts out there, and allow people to form their own opinions. you believe that you should give opinions, with no facts to back them. we have a different approach to academia, that is all. i am not going to say something, then, when asked to substantiate it, i run away and ignore it. that is your way, and you are entitled to it. you are a propagandist, a guy who trades in misrepresentations and half truths. i do not appropriate that luxury to myself. if i cannot prove it, i do not print it.

From the Influential International Living:
"We Can’t Afford to Live in the States Anymore."
We’d just finished dinner with a couple of International Living readers. They’ve decided to buy a house in Merida, where we live, and move here permanently.
“Health care and insurance costs alone are killing us. Add property tax, and it’s too much…especially when you consider that the value of our house in the States is falling fast.”
Suzan and I have heard this a lot lately.
Real estate prices in the U.S. are becoming more attractive thanks to the huge dose of reality injected into the market by the mortgage bubble burst.
But people still keep shopping in Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Brazil…throughout Latin America. Throughout the world.
“It doesn’t make any difference if you can now get a great deal on a place in the States,” another friend recently said. “You still can’t afford to live in it. And you sure won’t make any money on it in the near future if you try to sell it.”
