Luxurious beachfront property embraces ‘Green’ technology

Santo Domingo, PRLog (Press Release).– Las Arenas, a 25-story residential tower scheduled to break ground in the first quarter of 2009, introduces an new eco-friendly architectural design to Juan Dolio Beach in the Dominican Republic. The impressive building will be designed by Dominican architect, Jorge Mesa, and world-famous Spanish landscaper, Artur Bossy, both highly-respected professionals and leaders in their fields.

“The building’s ‘green’ design was inspired by the city’s natural beauty and unique landscape and views,” says Mesa.  “Since its conception, Artur and I have worked hand in hand to deliver a truly luxurious standard of living for both residents and visitors, while maintaining the integrity of Juan Dolio Beach,” says Mesa.

The eco-friendly components featured in this development include roof-top solar panels, which will provide energy for all of the common areas and landscaping designed from the sites natural vegetation.  The tower, which consists of 80% glass, is designed to allow sunlight in but acts like a filter that only allows 20% of the sun’s heat to enter inside.  This will minimize the use of energy from the air conditioners that cool the building. Las Arenas will also feature a treatment plant for water destined for the maintenance of the building and watering the gardens.

In addition to the “green” components that makeup Las Arenas is its extensive lush garden, designed by landscape artist, Artur Bossy, who can also be accredited for marvels, such as the Botanical Gardens in Barcelona.

Residences at Las Arenas include one bedroom lofts, two, three and four bedroom condominiums, and penthouses.  Each unit features eco-friendly technology, sound proof walls, and controlled entry with an access card. Two large parking levels enable residents to have the option of three parking spaces per unit.  Prices range from $210,000 - $2 million USD.

The project will also feature an infinity edge pool, Jacuzzi with hydromassage that seats up to 15 people, beach club and recreational section for children with daily supervision, and a fully-equipped gym with a stunning beach view.  Additional amenities include a business center and meeting rooms, Wi-Fi throughout the building, and a state-of-the-art commercial and retail area that will carry designer fashion brands, numerous restaurants from casual cafes to fine dining, and a boutique spa.

Think switching to solar energy will make you green? Think again. Many of the newest solar panels are manufactured with a gas that is 17,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide in contributing to global warming.

Nitrogen trifluoride, or NF3, is used for cleaning microcircuits during the manufacture of a host of modern electronics, including flat-screen TVs, iPhones, computer chips—and thin-film solar panels, the latest (and cheapest) generation of solar photovoltaics. (Time named the panels one of the best inventions of 2008.) Because industry estimates suggested that only about 2 percent of NF3 ever made it into the atmosphere, the chemical has been marketed as a cleaner alternative to other higher-emitting options. For the past decade, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has actively encouraged its use.

It turns out that NF3 might not be so green after all. “NF3 has a potential greenhouse impact larger than … even that of the world’s largest coal-fired power plants,” according to a June 2008 study by researchers at the University of California, Irvine. Because NF3 isn’t covered by Kyoto, few attempts have been made to measure it in the atmosphere. But last October, scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography reported that four times more NF3 is present in the atmosphere than industry estimates suggest, and its concentration is rising 11 percent a year......Welcome to Juan Dolio

I am happy living where I am, the igloo is very comfortable, my ice scraper turn me into an artist
I would rather have something cheaper, the best way to go green is to go natural. Cool Earth’s collectors is an alternative to solar.

Solar is one answer with great potential, but economics and the amount of power it can produce in comparison to fossil fuel power stations has held it back so far. e Cool Earth’s collectors are becoming advanced enough to effectively tackle these problems with technology that relies on inexpensive and free materials, is scalable, able to compete economically with fossil fuel power plants and is capable of delivering not just megawatts, but gigawatts of clean power.

all 7 light bulbs...
jajaj

If you want to be green... keep those massive towers away from the natural beauty. Plant some palm trees instead..

let me see if i get this right. GC advises us that solar panels are made with a gas which contributes greatly to global warming. but, he is never at a loss to remind us, on every occasion he gets, that global warming is a hoax, and that Al Gore is a fraud. i told you all that the guy is retarded.

more recycled attempts at being a funny man. you used that moto concho line yesterday, with less than gratifying results. maybe, instead of trying so hard to be a stand up comic, you ought to try to become a stand up guy.

This is good news. The DR is one of the World's propoerty hot spots and there an acute shortage of high class green residences for discerning clients. I trust that all the detailing is truly green, light pipes, recycled glass tiles, bamboo floors, wide use of natual sustainable materials. If so this should truly put the DR in the forefront of green building technologies. This in the future will be a huge asset. In time there will be a feeddown to the most humble dwelling and even Donald Trump might feel compelled to 'go green'.

I dont think that 25 story building is really eco friendly. They just place that name to attract buyers.

I guess the big advantage is that there is low land use. There is a need to stop the rampent march of golf estates with huge water requirements and mis-allocation of valuable farmland. There is discussion in South Africa to stop golf developments. Many environmentalists consider golf courses to be a waste of space, partially, because it requires considerable energy to maintain them in the condition that golf demands.
