PRESS RELEASE

CALGARY.- WestJet today announced the introduction of seasonal non-stop service to two new international sun destinations in the Caribbean: Bridgetown, Barbados and La Romana, Dominican Republic. These new sun destinations are part of WestJet's enhanced winter schedule, which will also include new service to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from various cities across Canada. WestJet will announce schedule details for the new Mexican destinations shortly.

WestJet also announced increased frequencies from Toronto to Jamaica, St Lucia and the Dominican Republic.

"With 20 destinations in the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, we continue to deliver on our international expansion strategy and strengthen our position as a strong and rapidly growing player on the international scene," said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President of Guest Experience and Marketing. "Our current service to key vacation spots is extremely popular and with the addition of Barbados and La Romana, our guests will have more places to go for fun and relaxation in the sun this winter."

WestJet is also introducing service to Kamloops, B.C., from Calgary and adding a new non-stop route between Calgary and Grande Prairie.

These announcements will bring WestJet's existing scheduled destinations to 49. By 2013, WestJet will fly to over 65 scheduled destinations.

What going on?

The US-owned JetBlue leaps in. Then we hear that the Panamanian-owned Copa is coming on strong.

Even Aerocaribbean, the Cubans, want a piece of the action.

Now, here comes the Canadians with their WestJet.

How is this possible with fuel cost rising?

Perhaps, the big imperialist airlines have two problems -- fuel cost and bond debt -- but when they crash, the imperialist airlines blame it on fuel costs.

These scrappy airlines that are moving into the hole that imperialist airlines leave, may have a better asset-liability ratio that enables them to bear added pressure of the cost of fuel.

If this is the case, why cut airport fees, giving the carriers a free lunch?

When I say "scrappy," I don't mean consisting of scraps. I mean "having an aggressive and determined spirit."

Does anyone know of any airline that flies from Newark to Santiago directly (not continental)?

Jerseyman, just Continental. Your other option is JetBlue out of JFK.

On another note: Just found out that USA3000, does not fly to Punta Cana anymore. Does any one know why or if they will continue service from Newark in the future?

It seems that all the schedules are fluid. Things will likely stay like this at least until September when AA crashes into the Caribbean. Perhaps some carriers are waiting to get a feel for the size of the flow after the shakeout of big US airlines before they re-do schedules.

Now try to imagine the above numbers are only the USA and they represent26% less available seats than last year
