SANTO DOMINGO. – Tourism minister Felix Jiménez’s tour of several European cities aims at consolidating Dominican Republic’s image as a top tourism destination and prevent a fall in visitor arrivals given the world economic downturn.
The official arrived Saturday in Madrid, where he stayed until yesterday Wednesday, and will head to Zurich for meetings today and tomorrow Friday.
He’ll fly to Rome where he’ll remain until Sunday, and return Monday to Madrid for meetings with executives of hotel chains, and of the public relations agency Made in Spain, as well as an interview with newspaper Expansion.
Jiménez also will head the “Conference-Gathering with Industrialists,” in the Institute of Business.
He’ll also meet with executives of Larga Distancia; with Walter Binggeli, president of the Swiss tour operator FTI; executives of Hotelplan Group Ag and of the Metro Group.

He had better take his knee pads...he will be using them a lot

i am mystified to understand how his trip will affect the world economic downturn. if people have no disposable income because of unfortuitous economic conditions, what is the purpose of this trip? will it put money in their pockets?

Dread they will be coming..... only the airfare went up for them everything else went down
From: United States, California, San Francisco, Treasure Island
dread economy grew 1% in the last quarter home sales are up ....it is only wishful thinking we are not in recession .....YET.....and maybe we will not be....it is still up for grabs...politics is being played
From: United States
really, Goulet? who is this ¨them¨? Europeans or Americans? i really hope you are not asserting that things are not in bad shape in the states, and that only air fares have risen. when you say the economy grew 1% in the last quarter, that has nothing to do with the individual condition of the population. economic growth, when measured by GDP increases, expresses only how much money was spent in the economy, not how the money was spent. it does not explain distribution, nor purpose. the price of milk, a staple food, has gone up by almost 50 cents per gallon in a few months. gasoline, vegetables, just about everything has gone up in price. home sales are up, fractionally, but the prices are down 14.3% on average , compared to the same period last year. no sir, the crap has hit the fan.

Dread GC knows what he is talking about .
Europe is used to paying for a liter what the US was paying for a gallon.
So what if we pay double then you drive half as much and plan your routes to maximize your time and fuel, It's not the end of the world .
The US has more reserves then they will ever tell you, trust me I was in Seismict Oil exploration for the first half of my working life.
I deal with European colleagues almost daily and they don't even mention a down turn in thier repective countries.+they take a month or more vacation yearly.
All of them have been here one time or another and can't wait to come back.
It is a time to be careful and wise but don't stop living .
CNN and Fox News will ride this econmy crisis until they have something better to terrify us with.
It is hurricane season so I imagine we will see Anderson Cooper hanging on to a tree while in the and telling people to "Hunker down" a storm is a brewing (I hate this guy).

I don't think we have seen the bottom yet but it will bottom out and then there will be no place to go but up.
Another life experince as a day trader when the bottom fell out of the dot coms, I panicked and dumped everything instead of being patient. So now instead of retiring at 50 I will have to keep at it for awhile longer.
You have to experince some bad times so you will enjoy the good times that much more.

Jander they are coming from Europe if they have to swim ...Just as they are trying to buy AB and the Chrysler building with devalued dollars....it is a bargain.....and after going through many economic downturns in 35 years in the crazy caribbean I will tell you.....When it gets cold in the north east they are coming nothing will stop them neither sleet nor rain nor snow they will be delivered to our shores....they will come floating in styrofoam cups if they have to.....and oh yes I almost forgot Andersen Cooper will be accompanying them...the putz....dont let dread bore you with the details nothing will stop them...even dread will be coming to harass the locals again... I can see him now swilling Presidente and chasing chicas and he will still be doing it when he is 70
From: United States
´personally, Goulet, i am a Brahma man myself, when i choose to drink beer.secondly, i will not be chasing chicas; they will be chasing me.
From: United States, California, San Francisco, Treasure Island
Dread we have so so much in common I also drink only Brahma and prefer their light I also let them chase me and I am a huge fan of the Spanish national football team ...Viva Espana Viva Franco
From: United States
well, Goulet, you may be in luck this year. if Spain does not revert to type and crap out when the money is on the table, they might yet win a major tournament. we all know about the resolute disposition of German teams, so watch the game with your pacemaker on low!

The Dominican tourism minister will be at the game cheering for the mother country....I suppose you will be in lock step with the square heads...... Those guys have a real sterling human rights history...... forget the Inquisition and the Tainos....just kidding...... it could also be a boring stinker
From: United States
if Germany scores first, it will be a boring stinker, no doubt!
From: United States, California, San Francisco, Treasure Island
Dread you will regret saying those unkind things about Spain as they have broken the hex and will now start winning all the time...Just like it is their time at a second empire in Latin America
From: United States
exercise caution, Goulet. this team was far superior on paper to any thing else in europe. the real test comes in two years when they have to tangle with the likes of argentina and brazil in the world cup. then we will see who the real big dog is.
From: United States, California, San Francisco, Treasure Island
Hey dread which team do you root for aside from Real Madrid national team that is ? seriously
From: United States
Gremio, from Porto Alegre, Brazil. they are experiencing lean fortunes in recent times.
From: United States, California, San Francisco, Treasure Island
Brazil the only South American country that ever had a European King reside there how nice...that is your national team ?
From: United States
i am only interested in the merits of the players. who the heck cares about the history? if i was to ponder that , i would have no interest in anything and anywhere, because just about every country has some sort of sordidness in its past. at least i hope that if i get to see them play live in brazil, i will not have to be ducking banana peels!

The old race domino again ....is this an obsession with you
From: United States
i guess so, Goulet. i guess it is similar to your obsession for making ignorant remarks.
