Santo Domingo.- In less than 30 days Congress has to approve the contract for the construction of the “Canoa Thermal Project" in Barahona (southwest), or an investment of RD$25 million by Italian entrepreneurs would be lost, said Tourism minister Felix Jimenez.
He suggested that Barahona natives send a letter so Congress approves Canoa, and projects such as Indetur, which aim to develop the South and Southwest.
Jimenez noted that the thermal and mineral waters in Barahona’s Canoa area provide it with the conditions for health tourism.
The Tourism chief asked Barahona senator Noe Sterling to “dust off” the projects to develop the South, especially sun and beach tourism using the beaches of Quemaíto and San Rafael. He said just by regenerating those two beaches Barahona would begin to be appetizing to investors and project developers.

Progress to me is when many benefit..........Better wages / salary's ! you bet, besides one has to consider the more you make, the more food and medicine you can buy and pay for that private School for a better education, it will stimulate the local economy and still enjoy a nice view......

Even if the wealth is not spread evenly, the country has to bring in more investors and has to enforce laws so that it will protect investors and people that actually want to do business in the DR legally and fairly.

in domincan republic there is not respect for their own people, the first thing one nvestor do is to block the access to the beaches, rivers, park areas, or any other way peope can continue enjoing of the natural befenits this land offers. i realy tired of hearing this excecutives talking about the developement of the country when there is a fine line between progress and abuse of resouces.
I lived in bavaro, puerto plata, sosua, santo domingo, samana and other places. and you´ll find the same story, a hotel closes the beach or sometime close the whole island for a day because of Tourism , example: Catalina island, cayo levantado (bacardi island-samana) are being close a day or 2 in the week. and no one, not even being tourist can plan going there those days. Reasons there must be in their own mind
I can understand that certains areas a restricted for SECURITY reasons but NOBODY OWNS THE BEACH.
