Herr Doktor Johann .. stop molesting our Dominican roosters .. leave them alone .. you mess with our fighting cocks and we will picket you in the Zona Colonial .. but yes Herr Doktor .. try setting up a good cock fight in the US and you could end up with Bubba .. and you would be seeing a completely different kind of cock fight .. I don't see why we should picket if the animals are well treated .. I am talking about the Dolphins of course .. not the cocks .. Jawohl Herr Doktor Johann?

OH YEAH! they can name their Restaurants after the Greek god Poseidon of the Hellenic Religion but they hypocritically banish the Voudou Religion.

Little do those idiots know Poseidon is the same as Agwé. Go ahead and promote another's religion while ignoring yours.

Since when has Voodoo been the religion of the DR? The Indians didn't practice it then the Vast Majority of Dominicans practice Catholocisim.
Voodoo isn't even the main religion in Haiti. That would be the Catholic religion also. Sure some ilegals in the DR follow some of the practices of Voodoo. But voodoo isn't even an organized religion. it is a mish-mash of some African rituals, gods and Christianity practiced in different ways depending on the wants and or goals of the practicioners.

Then I'll make a doll of YOU .. and stick needles into it's head ..

t is found in areas of the African diaspora, especially Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Brazil. This article is primarily concerned with the form of the religion as it is practiced in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. See Louisiana Voodoo for the Afro-creole tradition of New Orleans, Santería and Arará for the forms local to Cuba, and Candomblé and Umbanda for Brazil.

About time somebody slapped the crap outta that IGNORAMUS .. I agree with what you said about SANTERIA .. it is quite common right here in Santo Domingo .. the drumming rituals accompanied by chants that sound very African .. So all that "Hollywood" stuff I've been told about sticking pins in dolls .. that could just be a lot of junk .. no wonder it does not work with my George Bush doll .. it's just HollyVooDoo .. but sure looks dramatic ..

Read what I wrote you twit. Did I say that the Tainos were Christians?

Voodoo(spell it right) is not even a blip on the religious radar screen in the DR.
Santeria is an Afro-CUBAN religion nad has little conection with haitian voodoo.

Some Dominicans dabble in Brujeria taking a little from here and a little from there. they are mostly today in the realm of wives tales and superstitions.

VOODOO has little or no place in the History or Culture of the Dominican Republic. So take Haitian lambomeria and go back to the slums of Puerto Principe. Nobody here is buying it.

Anywhere else it is spelled differently so I stand correct....................

Santeria is the same as Voudou they have the same origin just different names and if you are skilled enough in the world of Religion you will discover that the Voudou gods are the same as the Greek and Roman gods. Do some research idiot before you communicate.

While there are similiarities saying that Snateria and Voodoo are the same is like saying Christianity and Islam are the same.

Anyway back to your complaint.
Voodoo ahs no significant place in Dominican Culture or history.

For the first time ever I will have to back up mr room1804. He is correct in the aspect that the the African derived belief system called vudu in Haiti is alive and kicking on our side of the island. The differences are very clear between vudu and what we dominicans call La 21 Division, but there are many similarities. Within the last year I've been doing some research about our community here and abroad to see the extent of these beliefs. My conclusions so far are the following:
1. The belief system is passing from one generation to another at all ages starting as young as the early teens.
2. Festivals and celebrations are taking place more openly than before.
3. People in the DR are becoming more like the Cubans on the island where they are not afraid to openly discuss their beliefs.
4. The music, rituals and culture are taking strength in the diaspora, in NYC for example it is normal to see posters for fiesta de palos at big clubs and for smaller venues to have a weekly even

you can spell the word in difference forms
Vodou (Anglicized: Voodoo) or Vaudoo is a family of New World syncretistic religions primarily based on the faiths of the Fon, Ewe, and related peoples of West Africa (see West African Vodun), of the Kongo people of Central Africa (see Lemba), and of Christianity.
The dolls is only a invention of Hollywood. The practice of sticking pins in dolls has history in European folk magic
