However, this Second installment of the Russians are coming is more like a War Movie; It's no joke! Lollygagers like Barney Fyfe, and Gomer Pyle can be duped by these peace time stories, but this is no lollapaloosa, this time it's real.

Clinton signed first bill which caused this mess in 2008 Bush signed an operating bill for the govt, that the dems put 25bn. in for car makers. The mess that is being corrected now in Sept. 2008 is fault of dems from the 90's and the Dems once again could not resist putting 25bn in that bill for car makers. The mess today has nothing to do with Clinton. The vintage of the securities causing the most trouble date very specifically to the last few years, not the 90s. Underwriting standards on mortgages did not become so lax until very recently, a result of banks reaching hard for more debt to securitize and sell. Bush expanded homeownership legislation (google: Zero Downpayment initiative).
Additionally and more importantly the SEC during this administration allowed the investment banks to leverage themselves to a much higher degree than before. The crisis today is a DIRECT result of institutions not having the capital base/liquidity to support their liabilities, so this is the crux of the issue. I know this may escape the understanding of the lay man but there it is.

GC that video is old news and I had already seen it which is why I'm stepping up against this misinformation. It is easy to mislead people who haven't had the chance to put in the legwork when it comes to financial matters. The video fails to discuss the issue of solvency, capital requirements and leverage rules loosened for the very banks that failed, does not indicate at all that Bush took part in loosening the mortgage situation, pins no blame for the detachment of home prices from inflation being connected to Greenspan's long stretch of low interest rates, doesn't mention that the problem was over-securitization of debt into exotic assets far beyond the MBS stage which the GSEs promoted, doesn't answer the other point I'd already mentioned about the vintage years of the securities which have become toxic (all date to last few years) . Believe me one could easily make a video that makes republican policies and conservative economics look like the culprit.

People don't care much about fuel consumption - a boat with a couple of 200 hp oceanpros might get through 200 gallons in a day based on 20 galls/hour - helicopters burn fuel fast. Have to see how the new Russian model does in the market and if Chevez buys some of the military versions for troop movement in ALBA.

Baltic Ferry 6,455 GRT — equipped with helicopter pad and carried three Army helicopters, 105 troops, and 1874 tons of stores and ammunition to Ajax Bay on 1 June[4][11]
Europic Ferry 4,190 GRT — equipped with helicopter pad and carried vehicles, ammunition, fuel, and four Scout helicopters of 656 Squadron Army Air Corps to San Carlos on 21 May[4][12]

Please stay away from Aviation as you apparently know nothing.
Neither the Concorde or The TU-140 could have been converted to a bomber. They did not posses the structure nor the design for an internal Bomb Bay. The only choice would be to hang them on hard-points on the wings. This would have needed a major wing redesign and would not allow either plane to go supersonic. So they would just be slow, sluggish Targets.
The US developed the B-70 which was a MACH 3 Bomber. It flew Years before the Concorde or the TU-140. It was dropped as High Speed/High Altitude Bombing had become obsolete.

Nor could a 737 but - twin towers! It was TU-144 not TU-140. During WW2 both UK and Japs did no-return trips. The UK venture includes catapult lauches to protect atlantic convoys. A fleet of three concordes with atomic bombs could do some damage to Moscow or New York.
Information is that the TU-160 was developed after a design based on TU-144 was rejected. At the time a rear vigilante type ejection system for bombs was considered. Nuclear bombs weigh about as much as two overweight passengers - not a large structual load. Some are even lighter amd measure about 2 ft. cube or less. Some fit in a suitcase. V bombers then in use took considerahle time to reach target. Missiles at the time had different vunerabilites- Military experts from smaller countries did not like the sound of 'star wars' etc. in the 70's. Submarines had become increasingly detectable and sinkable.

Even then if an all out Nulclear war was to happen the Bombers would be the 2nd or 3rd attack to mop up anything that isn't glowing in Russia.

By your line of reasoning-Bush signed the bill, his fault so if Clinton signed the Bill-his fault
AND if you call this YOU whipping Butt, you are for sure a masochist, come on over I left the vasoline at home but have plenty of sand.
BTW McCain authored 2 bills during 2005-06 that sought to undo what he saw was coming and both times they were defeated by the Dems-Overwhelmingly I might add. Who do yo suppose are the main recipients of campaign contributions from Freddy & Fanny, well what do you know Dems. Dodd and Obama to be exact the same oversight committee that is supposed to watch them is taking from them.
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.

Here are a few more;
“One of the consequences of such notions as "entitlements" is that people who have contributed nothing to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for being nice enough to grace us with their presence.”
Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
" In Capitolism man takes advantage of his fellow man, in socialism and communisim its just the opposite"
Hate Bush twin (Mccain) and his agenda..............

Some Russian transports could match the capabilites of the A400M or C17. But large transports fare badly in vunerablity studies as you know. Perhaps new versions of An-124 are possible for ALBA. Normally they can be used for commercial freight. Maybe a big... Russian bird as visitor....
But as the Condor Express is registered in Nassau at time of crisis she could be recalled to her home port and used
RO-RO ferries can be equipled with helicopter pads.
e.g. during Falklands War:
Elk 5,463 GRT — equipped with helicopter pad and two Bofors 40 mm guns to carry three Sea King helicopters, ammunition, and heavy vehicles including eight Bofors 40 mm guns, four FV101 Scorpion and four FV107 Scimitar light tanks - joined carrier battle group 16 May[4][10]
Baltic Ferry 6,455 GRT — equipped with helicopter pad and carried three Army helicopters, 105 troops, and 1874 tons of stores and ammunition to Ajax Bay on 1 June[4][11]
Europic Ferry 4,190 GRT — equipped with helicopter pad and carried vehicles, ammunition, fuel, and four Scout helicopters of 656 Squadron Army Air Corps to San Carlos on 21 May[4][12]
Nordic Ferry 6,455 GRT

Large British hovercraft were a success for a while but fuel costs did not compare well with fast ferries.

You realize the US doesn't have any Free-Fall Nukes anymore. All aircraft delivered Atomic weapons are either SRAMs or Cruise-Missle types.
Even then if an all out Nulclear war was to happen the Bombers would be the 2nd or 3rd attack to mop up anything that isn't glowing in Russia.
Even Russia has given up on Free Fall Nukes.
BTW only Russian Subs are detectable and sinkable.
Ever hear of the great PING that happend in the 80's. It cost over 2 dozen soviet admirals their jobs.
Having worked on sonars and other detection equipment I take your last statement with a pinch of salt. Exercises of Brits hunting US - subs. UK france etc. do not have many subs.

There are far better weapons systems now. The argument I was making is that at the time it was not commercial any more that landing a man on the moon was or many military programs. Much of the development was carried out in military establishments, universities etc. on a cost plus basis. I should have said 'could have done some damage'.
