Santo Domingo.- The tourism industry continues its consolidation as “the economy’s freight train,” thanks to the Government policies assumed by the private sector, including a new ad campaign abroad titled “Dominican Republic has it all.”

Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia said since mid 2008 Tourism applied four pillars to define its work policy: “attract new investments, bolster and expand internal destinations, motor sustainable tourism and maintain the harmony and collaboration among the sector’s members.

In a statement, Garcia said the Government maintains a special interest in the integral development of those strategies because tourism continues being the country’s top currency provider, and noted the participation in international tourism fairs including Fitur, in Madrid, ITB Berlin and Top Resa, in France.

He affirmed that local programs seek to recover and develop value tourist sites, by providing the needed structural repairs for optimal yield, such as new access roads and constant vigilance to guarantee the visitors’ safety. “The reach for the objectives has materialized based on a climate of harmony and cooperation between the authorities, the hoteliers, investors and tour operators.”

I hope the government does not try to take to much credit for this success story they were strictly along for the ride and thankfully stayed out of the way except for collecting their taxes This is truly a private sector success story and aside from protecting the environment and the employees should stay clear and get out of the way

Come on. The ‘private’ tourism corporations are licking the boots of these corrupt swine.

I am sure they were told to “write something good, or we’ll demand more kickbacks”.

The electricity is a joke, the education of their own people is a tragedy, you have to have bars on your windows (like you are in jail) just to keep the 80% of the countries poor from stealing you blind.

Lies, all lies. Even when you are in a all inclusive and NEVER get to see the real Dominican Republic.

there are a great number of educated individual in DR. Whta there is not is jobs where to placed them after school. Many lawyers, doctors, nurses, and many other professionals will have to work like anyone who never went to school, that is if you don't know someone in the Goverment...yes my friend, if you know someone in the Goverment, You don't need a Degree or any education for that matter.

Now all the DR has to do is abandon the All Inclusive Model eventually and they will begin to mature like they should. It is fine to use Tour Operators with charter plane capacity to get tourism started. But now that airlines have regular schedules, the tour operators still continue to demand the poisonous All Inclusive so that they can make all the money that the Hotels and labor force will not earn. The use of All Inclusive and Tour Operators to support developing tourism will be the poison pill to kill it as fast as grow it. It is not sustainable as long as these 2 elements continue to dominate. The money will continue to leave the country and contribute nothing but poverty and social and environmental problems in its wake. The DR has to wake up to this soon or it will join the ranks of so many tourism economies that have imploded because they failed to mature out of these 2 poisonous elements that are disguised as harmless issues to the ignorant who don't know better.

that is correct the all inclusive is not the be all and end all it was fantastic just prior to the world economic implosion when The Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons and Fairmont and many many other Ultra Luxe hotels were coming here this signals the DR has arrived and they have been slowed but they have not been stopped ....Now if we can just prevent the Joseans and the Dreads of the country from driving these exploiters into the sea as they call them exploiters ...we will move away from the all you eat and drink till you puke all inclusive

I know some fatty's that would make the hotels loose money on the all inclusive. Also, the way Dominicans drink, they would also drink way more than the all inclusive price.

Dipped himself once in the ocean and then went back to the food. Don't know how he made it all the way back to Santiago with out having to use the toilet. lol

. Most traffic deaths motorcycle related
According to hospital authorities in Santiago de los Caballeros, 72% of traffic accidents and 80% of traffic fatalities that happen in the Dominican Republic involved motorcycles. These figures emerged during a meeting between representatives of local and international institutions who were looking for preventive measures.

You know of all the nationalities in Latin America the DOMINICANS ARE THE WORSE, yes the only ones who publicly criticize and discredit their own country more so then any other nationality that I have seen. We love to bash each other as it were some sort of pleasurable sexual experience. Washing dirty laundry in public is our specialty and I just don't know or understand why we do it. I never see or hear other people from other countries which have very much similar problems such as our complain so openly and blantantly as do Dominicans. I hardly ever hear Mexicans complain as much. Not even Hondurans, Nicaraguans and Guatelamans, after Haiti three of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, talk so much crap like we do. In fact I don't think even the Haitians publicly talk so bad about their own country like we do and they have it the worse. We are just a bunch of childish whiners. Just shut-up and do something, PLEASE!!!

Apparently it doesn't have it all when it comes to agriculture!

Where are all the clapping seals here at DT that drank the Kool-Aid about the great improvements in agricultural production made by LIE-onel Fernandez and his most efficient administration!

Ah but telling the truth makes one a bad Dominican, eh guillermone.
