Great -there could be a connection through London, Frankfurt or Paris to UAE. Or possibly non stop. Total flying time 12 hours. DR would make a superb hub for UAE airlines to service South America with only one stop and no transit visa formalities as with the US. Exciting DR could eventually have traditional Arab hospitality in Arab owned hotels as in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt etc. all key tourist destinations. One of my relatives did a tour of morocco - good Arab owned hotels. This is a good move. The US buys plenty of Arab oil - the UAE people can spend the dollars here...... UAE airlines are fast growing. Arab passions such as horse racing could take off.
Arab hotel groups are expanding fast - big investments here will take place.

juanb, Don't smoke so much of that american government propaganda. The terrorism hoax was and continues to be fabricated by the us government to enslave its people via the patriot act. There are no terrorists over there or anywhere else.

Just another way for the PLD to peddle more of our young girls & boys for sex. Face it, Arabs / ragheads travel to countries like the DR, Phillipines, Cuba, Venezula & other 3rd world countries to get their sex on!

its actually pretty funny to see some of you comment with such disdain for middle easterners. Ironic actually considering that dominicans are often discriminated against and categorized on a level that is the same as that which some are using for arabs. One would think that since you are part of a group that is already looked at as third class that one would choose to keep comments like that to yourself.

Either that or your are expressing some guilt over coming to our island and paying for sex with a 13 or 14 old street kid. So, which is it?

bolospaghetti,
So there is some bad news for you here today Although I am very greatful that you wrote these thoughts since it allowed me to find some information that I normally wouldn't have. But that's not related to you but it is related to your first question. So the reason why I chose that name was because it is the name of a poem called 'Oh Dominica' which happens to be about the Dominican Republic but chooses the feminine name as a way to personify it (do not mistaken it for a plagerized version that talks about the country dominica). The real bad news for you, however, is that I was born in DR. I know, I'm sorry but it is true and as bad as it sounds even if I wanted to I can't changed it since it is through jus soli. Even if that right were taken away my roots would allow it through jus sanguinis. But then again, who am I to question your anger towards other races and countries?

If it weren't for living in Dubai, I would think you all are being harsh with the comments about Gulf Arabs looking to sexually exploit Dominicans. They have huge problems with human trafficking over there - girls are brought in from Eastern Europe, China, and Africa to feed the repressed Arabs' sexual appetites. They're everywhere. Emiratis say prostitution in the UAE exists to keep the expat population happy, but everyone there knows that the main consumers are the Emiratis themselves. Prostitution is practically their national pasttime, and it starts when guys are just in high school.
That said, most of the population in Gulf countries are expats from around the world. I would think most of the passengers would be foreigners or locals going on a business trip to South America. I can't imagine Emiratis going all the way to the DR for a beach vacation when they have Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Maldives, etc. so close by. If they do, though, you best keep on eye on the little ones.
