London. - The Tourism Ministry plans to open new tourism promotion offices in the country and several United States cities, said Monday in this city the minister Francisco Javier Garcia.
The official made the announcement at the start of the World Travel and Tourism Market being held until Thursday, and which gathers thousands of the industry’s leaders are.
Garcia said Tourism offices would open in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Orlando and Boston, and recently opened offices in the Czech Republic, to cover Hungary and Poland; and in Sweden, for the Scandinavian countries and Austria.
The Tourism chief said the opening of those offices during his 14 month tenure is part of the Government’s plans to bolster the country’s promotion in the traditional markets.
In a statement Garcia said the Dominican Republic is forced to diversify its markets to secure a higher flow of tourists and cover the current hotel supply, of around 70,000 rooms.
He said promotion offices were opened in those U.S. because of their high potential of tourists.

maybe THEY CAN GET MICKEY MOUSE TO VIST?......
Soon, the usual well-connected will populate the newly opened tourism offices in those chosen places, with non-commensurate high incomes and expense accounts-all riding on the backs and foreheads of hard-working Dominicans. The main tasks of these individuals will not necessarily be to promote tourism but, rather, to assure the uninterrupted importation of high-end Yipetas.
This is all so unnecessary, especially in this era of the Internet and advanced and high speed communication. I don't believe this would be best way to spend our money, but maybe it beats the METRO.
danny,
You can find mikey mouse homeless under a bridge in Orlando.lol
Let's have a revolutionary paradigm shift when it comes to tourism. Let's really promote DR's abundant attributes and get tourist outside of their compounds to mingle with locals and sample culture and drop a few dollar on local economy. That would be win/win situation and correct thing to do.
No more all inclusive resorts.....they really don't help DR. Tourist don't know or care where they are, and by time they come home and sober up, they would probably believe they were in Jamaica. Heck, possibly no Spanish was spoken at the resort; there was no bachata dancing, and they probably never sampled a good moro or locrio. How sad!
