Santo Domingo. - The presence of the Dominican Republic destination in London’s World Travel Market (WTM-2009) international tourism fair will benefit hotel companies as Europe’s tourism sector will heighten the demand for its products.

Representatives from Casa de Campo, Punta Cana and of the Oasis Hotels & Resort told Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia that their business appointments with English and European tour operators were very positive, given their interest in exploring the Dominican destination.

Garcia said the private and public sectors conducted a busy agenda including renewed agreements with airlines, tour operators and hotel chains, to guarantee that Dominican tourism continues in the positive figures of the last few months.

The Tourism Minister met with senior executives of the tour operators Group TUI, Thomas Cook and SunWing, and of British Airways and the Federation of Tour and Tourism Operators (FTO), to outline joint business plans for 2010.

The official said from May to October TUI will operate a weekly flight at La Romana International Airport and also plan to increase its capacity at Punta Cana’s terminal (east). “This fair is the most important held in London and all of England and the English market is very important for us, for being Europe’s third largest market and the fifth for Dominican Republic.”

Rosa ..I think it is a far better idea to let the moderator do his own job as her is best placed to do it ..and also most of your writers are fully aware of the restrictions placed on bad taste and have returned in a different guise ...but it is good to see that you operate as a dominican ,giving ample opportunity to escape.

As far`as this article is concerned ..it must be horrid news for all the writers here who are always deriding the DR and are being proved wrong over and over again..even the world economy is on the up and with it the Dominican Republic

So Ricky because the "UNBAISED" Minister of Tourism says this is happening, it is to be believed without critical review or comment?

Especially since the credibility of this president and his ministers is so above reproach!

Tourism is a demeaning industry for our citizens.
Our people/government are corrupted by the dollar/euro
Prices rise
Our customs are subjugated and demeaned
Profits do not stay here
Our people do not earn a living wage

I took the staements at face value ..although I did remark earlier that I could see no evidence of any Dominican promotion when I was in England recently on two occasions ..but I do know for a fact that both Casa de Campo and Cap Cana have been active in trying to get European visitors and potential buyers of real estate

Ricardolito, first things first. i hope that you are fully recovered from your recent indispositions. then, having said that, i would like an explanation from you regarding the ECONOMIC pros and cons of inviting foreigners from countries that are more affluent than the DR to buy real estate, unfettered. do you believe that it will have an adverse effect on the prices for local Dominicans? just checking

I'm sure that in certain circumstances it does make it more difficult for locals to buy. Laws such sas in Thailand could easily be introduced limiting non Dominicans to certain condo blocks and plots of less than 1/4 acre. In inland areas there is little competition for land from foreigners and prices are not so much affected. In coastal areas plannng can be use to re-designate blocks of land and take these over from landowners at agricultural values then resell to Dominican who were qualified by living/working in the area for 10 years ( e.g. in the local school, hospital etc. ) The sale could be in the form of a lease with no free sale after.
Developers could also be required to incorporate 'social housing' and pay for this in their schemes.

answer the question and stop babbling on like a drunken soccer hooligan.....dread has no time to waste on buffoons he is busy protecting the DR from outside exploiters.....cant you see him standing guard with his trusty pitchfork ready to drive the capitalist exploiters into the sea.....a strategy that has worked well in the British Caribbean where they dont allow those honky crackers to get away with anything

ABC is a man full of fanciful, well intentioned THEORIES, which he refuses to understand are not readily adaptable to the DR. why, you ask? because they will all be circumvented by the ubiquitous and obligatory bribery which rears its ugly head at every turn. a few briefcases full of cold cash trump law and statute every time, ABC. at least, here.

Blutarksy seems to make fun of my disdain for the majority of gringos here. he sees them as sterling figures, champions of liberty and progress. well, i beg to differ. i just witnessed a millionaire businessman close down a site, and he ended up stiffing everybody, including the retarded groundsman, for the few pesos they earned. he then importuned them to take him to the labor board, reminding them that nobody has beaten him there, to date. so, Blutarsky, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, i would like to return to earth as a virulent, aggressive epidemic. i would surely right some wrongs, i assure you.

There is corruption in other places, Thailand, UK, France believe you me. The trick of legislators in these coutries have is of making laws that are in broad sweep re-distributive - from rich or landowners to poor. I bought a house on a plot of land in the UK that had been bought from the previous owner for peanuts - it was farmland - the government put in sewers, water etc. and then sold to me. I could not sell for 5 years without considerable penalty. Officials were paid low salaries but got a bit of land on thec side. The challenge of all governments is to limit corruption not eliminate it.

x,

You can not be "racist" against Americans as Americans are not a race but rather a geographic classification of persons of many nationalities and races. From the North American border with the Arctic to the South American border with the Antarctic and its environs.

However you could be prejudiced or bigoted!

Me, racist - no. US is a mixture of various races , Negro, Caucasian, Chinese descent etc. so that is impossible.
