Santo Domingo.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia announced the arrival of a group of Spanish investors in two weeks to propose a US$300 million investment in the national airline Dominican Air.
“These investors are going to completely transform what was our initial concept for Dominican Air which was a company that arose with an initial capital investment of US$10 million," the official said in a statement sent from London where he headed the country’s delegation in the World Travel Market.
As part of the negotiations during the fair, Garcia also said Virgin Atlantic airline, through its company Virgin Holiday Tours, will begin two weekly flights between London and Puerto Plata during the winter season as part of a 5-year agreement.

another piece of good news and Virgin Antlantic is a top airline with a good record of safety and service ..but I do not think $ 300 million is anywhere near enough to put into a Dominican Airline,so would discount the Spanish investment very heavily

Dominican airline will be top dog in Carib services. Great news. Air Jamaica has expanded rapidly over the years and benefits from a low cost base. I'm sure investors will find a Dominican airline very attractive.

Yes Air Jamaica is a huge success story bigger than huge.....Year to date, Air Jamaica reported an operating loss of US$63.51 million on revenues of US$293.27 million, considerably better than last year's performance which saw the airline reporting an operating loss of US$162.43 million on revenues of US$350.98 million.

xwill, you astonish me. for a person who sometimes makes intelligent observations, you have this tendency to lower yourself to the standards of Blutarsky, and say the most asinine things. have you ever flown Air Jamaica? it happens to be a superb airline, with a very high percentage of ontime flights, well maintained, and very clean. in forty yeras, not one crash. superb pilots, many of whom are now flying in the Emirates. yes, there are 160 jamaican pilots fling in places like Dubai, because those guys like their work. so, when you work on an oil rig in the gulf, it is probably a jamaican who is flying the helicopter to the installation. chicken cargo? you mean the airline that gave the world the champagne breakfast? yes, it has its financial woes, like most airlines the world over. but, at least, it is still around , after 40 years. where is yours?

From: Dominican Republic
Blutarsky you are obviously not a well travelled educated man. Virgin has an excellent reputation throughout the world and I am happy to see they are now starting in the US. The American travellers will soon see a tremendous improvement in service. A toiletry bag filled with toothbrush, toothpaste, ear plugs, foot socks, etc, free newspapers, all drinks, food with choice of menu and wine, free movies AND all included in a much lesser price than those crooks Always Awful and other American airlines charge AND you do not pay for your luggage. You Americans have been cheated for years and you do nothing about it. The Europeans would never accept it. When Brits fly from UK to the US with AA, they are charged half the price you guys pay from the US to UK and the Brits do not pay for food, drinks, luggage, movies, pillows, blankets etc. DUH! my dear, DUH!

From: United States
SAS, you will learn, with time, that Blutarsky is an immensely opinionated fellow who does not permit logic and information to pollute his insights. if he does not like the people involved, their product is worthless and futile, as declared by him. so, a little forbearance is in order in his case, as he is continuously browbeating people who have little tolerance for his antics

Please be polite and to the point Blut is a total idiot in his land of broken down TV,s.Uprates that disaster country the US and downrates everywhere else. Somday one can envisage him huddling outside and air-con vent in the down town of an american city singing to the asembled crowd:
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine

The Tamil tigers could help with sea mines for DR - they managed to sink a navy fast attack boat.
Mines ae excellent for defense - they can be moved and just a narrow clear channel left. The position of this channel can only be given to friendly shipping.
