SANTO DOMINGO.- The slow pace of the project to build the five star Thermal and Tourism Center in Canoa, Barahona (southwest) has began to worry the investors, who now consider other options in the region, where they can develop the complex at an estimated cost of US$1.5 billion.

The situation of little advance began in 2007 with the lease procedure signed between the Tourism Ministry and the Spanish company Terma de la Salamandra, as Congress has yet to ratify the contract and the Environment Ministry permit hasn’t been issued.

"The investors are asking me what’s happening, we wither go ahead or we’ll go somewhere else, and in fact don’t tell us if we’re going to solve things quickly here, we’re tired of it all," said Roberto Chetoni, president of Terma de la Salamandra.

He said the project would solve many of the South region’s problems, because it will include important investments aimed at invigorating the zone’s development.

Chetoni said so far they’ve spent more than US$2 million in legal proceedings, payments to farmers and other documents, "because I want to begin, but I cannot, because I need the ratification of the contract in Congress; in Environment we’ve presented all the papers, but they always tell us tnat now we need this, we also need that and now we feel that we already presented everything and we’re waiting."

He said the investors tell him “let’s go to another place, but I believe in the project and the possibility of in fact making something incredible, I don’t understand why there’s no advance," on the complex aimed at a tourism of health.

Who are you kidding? You did not realize that ALL Dominicans have the inbred entitled corruption gene.

If they are not part of the corruption stream (red tape in this case) they their intelligence (or lack there of) has been insulted. At that point you are risk of physical violence.

Come On! Just when and who managed to convince you that it was going to be easy?

Get in line with all the other gullible chumps please. Hundreds like you have left frustrated, broke and worst of all totally discredited with their investors.

Hey Robbie, Can I interest your investors in a bridge?
You can have it in a week and put a toll on it and charge anything you want. How's that?

My advise is let loose those "cheles" and watch it move at the speed of sound !
Welcome to the Dominican Republic where lots is promised and little delivered.
Money talks and obviously you are not speaking their language.

When they finish with you you can add another Billion to that estimate of yours. Don't you know a shake down when you see it?

Oh and by the way, they don't like it when you put out bad press releases. No that is a big no no because it scares their future gullible prospects.

That's going to be the most expensive thermal bath spa resort in the world.

magnificent post, synapse. someone should take the principals of this company into the parking lot and explain the niceties of acquiring things like permits to build things in the DR. better yet, they could take him for a gentle ride into the capital, where they could ride by the Bentley and Mercedes Benz dealerships. then, their companions could mutter the words "HINT, HINT, WINK WINK" under their breath. the project would then be accomplished at warp speed, providing the builder takes the hint.

Some don't want the south to progress, at least that's how it seems. There's also a huge project for Baní (Los Corbanitos), which was first proposed in the 70s but couldn't get approved until recently. Some $7 billion dollars would be invested in the Los Corbanitos project in Baní, but don't be surprised if our beloved burRocratas come up with something to stop this from happening, just like they have done with the hot springs project.

Somebody should have told them the secret.........bribe from the top down, not the bottom up. It moves things along much faster.
