Santo Domingo.- National District mayor Roberto Salcedo Friday said the remodeling of Santo Domingo’s Malecon seaside boulevard will create two 2,000 direct jobs.
He said the San Soucí project has spent 90 million pesos to remodel the area, and to build the plazas Juan Baron and Omar Torrijos.
Salcedo said the sidewalks will be 5 meters wider towards the sea, for a total of 10 meters along the entire Malecon.
The official said the boulevard’s lighting will also be improved and an inventory of the zone’s erosions will be taken as a safety measure.
It’s the Malecon’s second major improvement during Salcedo’s tenure, after the eateries and bars at the beach Guibia and Torrijos Plaza were demolished to prevent the spread of vermin.

Lighting is not only to stop crime, it will enhance the seaside's look and modernity.
Lamp post possibly worthless due to frequent apagones; however, they should install them nevertheless, as they shall one day prove useful in dispensing justice, born of public outrage and anger over institutionalized corruption.
Sure. It was a super place to take the kids of an evening and stroll around, get Cuban sandwiches. Now the vermin is where? How many contracts? It's been near 3 years to do nothing, but spend money of course on 'studies' by the bureau-rats.
