SANTO DOMINGO.- Starting today, the company Ferries del Caribe will provide its marine transport service from Santo Domingo directly to the Puerto Pan-Americano, located in Isla Grande, San Juan.
In a statement, the company said the cruise-ferry ship Caribbean Express will continue its Monday, Wednesday and Friday schedule between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, now departing at 6 p.m. to arrive at both destinations the following morning at 8 p.m.
Ferries del Caribe president Nestor Gonzalez said they transferred operations to San Juan after its thousands of passengers and commercial customers demanded better facilities such as common areas and parking.
The shipper said the transfer of operations, now "capital to capital," will save time and money for the ferry’s passengers and customers, because the previous port was Mayaguez. He said his company transports 170,000 passengers, 19,000 vehicles and 11,000 containers between both ports annually.
The company also plans to build its own terminal in the country, which according to what Ferries executives said during a recent visit, will be in the eastern Santo Domingo harbor Sans Souci.

Even the mall is so far in mayaguez port and it takes time to go back to the ship. we hardly run in the gangway because were running out of time for our duty and its because the taxi is not enough to cater us crew going to the ship but with all these sentiments i still love mayaguez., its just like im home, in the PHILIPPINES
