The hoteliers accuse a councilman of cutting trees illegally
Zoom Picture

CABARETE, Dominican Republic.- The hotels and restaurants grouped in ASONAHORES state their support of the tourism businesses in Sosúa and Cabarete, in their demand of fair treatment by the municipal authorities and in their interest to solve problems that affect the zone’s tourism.

The group’s president, Haydee Rainieri, and executive vice president, Arturo Villanueva, met with their pars of Sosúa and Cabarete, and the Environment and Tourism Protection Association (ASOPROCASO) and the Cabarete Development Association (ADECA), to stress ASONAHORES’s support.

Also present in the meeting were North Hotels Tourism Association president  Maximo Iglesias; ADECA president  Peter Orr; ASHORESOCA president Diego Giribaldi; Playa Dorada Hotel Association president  Roberto Casoni; Punta Goleta president Olga Noboa de Arocha, and other tourism business leaders of the zone.

The zone’s leaders said the privatization of Cabarete’s municipal Treasury and trash collection service violates the State Contracting and Services Law and other regulations, for which they filed suit in court.

They affirm that those organizations aren’t in the State National Suppliers Registry and that those companies seek to collect exorbitant taxes and fees and use questionable practices that create many problems in the community.

They denounce that the company which took over the Municipal Treasury demands tax payments for ground use and construction in excess of those established by law, and try to charge again for permits approved before it was privatized.

The community and business representatives also stated their concern over the need to build a bypass highway and the projects in the billions of dollars which they affirm have been slowed or are stalled because the authorization to build up to 4 floors has yet to be formalized.

They presented the case of Sosúa councilman Gabriel Antonio Canoa, whom they say Environmental Ministry officers caught several times cutting trees and filling the protected area Cabarete Lagoon, but has yet to be charged for those crimes.

They have been talking about this day and scaring the beach vendors with rumours of 4 star resorts since Columbus discovered Mama Juana and its finally actually coming to fruition . The same thing is happening in Playa Dorada . They just closed down half of the resorts on the strip to convert them and construct new luxury condos and a marina of course . My friend was given 2 weeks notice when Occidental made the annoncement that its closing its doors. The goal of the investors and the Dominican Government is to Bavaroize the North coast and hopefully tame the tiguere and sweep away the sankies.

Too many interested parties. Too many fingers in the pot ! Can we all say together, in unison, WTH, this is a CLUSTER F**K ! At the same time, the Senate yesterday unanimously approved a 99 year lease on a 2500+ tarea parcel to be developed by a company (Italian principals) capatilized at half a millon pesos (500K)...! This company is to build a 1000 room resort in Canoa, ! What a JOKE ! Call me skeptical....No wonder, the DR has lost credibility in most everything that is international in scope.

Dear Bailarin, where do you get your fantastic information from? Did you ever bother to ask the developers of Infiniti Blu if the rumor you are spreading is true? I can just suggest you train more often your grey cells in order to understand and select the news you are reading instead of telling lies. Infiniti Blu's 3rd. Phase doesn't have anything to do with Charamicos and the marine project. Infiniti Blu is located in Batey and there are no blue prints what so ever for any kind of marine project planned by us. We are just mentioning the possible future development of a marine project in Charamicos in our website. That's all.....

Infinitisproblem is with the Sosua NEWS SITE . not me..Check it out for yourself. It has the total plan drawn and mapped out with a hospital ,condosand a marina ..From the article , it doesnt look like some todler coloring on the teachers desk ..Is it or is it not Charamicos in Batey it Talks about .? Maybe I miss read something , but a liar Im not .. Please go to Sosua.com and hit the news link and youll find the article and the plans ..If it is true whats the problem ? Just because the majority dont want to see thier country go up in penthouses, Im sure there are many who would love to buy one from you. ..If I misrepresented your company by overlooking the facts , I will publicly apologize for my ignorance ..Let me know !

Dear Bailarin, Thanks for your comment. The article you are mentioning ist just used in our website as an information about future developments in the area. We are also mentioning Golf courses and Horse back riding in our website, however I can assure you that we are neither planning a Golf course nor will offer horse back riding classes. Sosua News site did receive a complaint from us today to correct their misleading report. Since you are using a public platform you should be more careful about what you are writing. Besides that I would like to invite you to Infiniti Blu to make up your mind before you rally about the country going up in penthouses. Developments like Infiniti Blu give a sense of quality and harmony to Batey which is else where just famous for it bars and prostitutes.

No one is arguing about the quality and character of Infiniti Blu ,(atleast me), as you are a well recognized company known for providing exceptional quality and If i WERE in the market I wouldnt have any problems dealing with you or recommending you ..I have never heard anything negative about you in the 3 years I've lived here as I have with so many others . However , truth be told, I Live and work in the D.R to get away from highrise America and I AS many others ,hate to see the natural beauty of this Island spoiled by as much as an umbrella stand let alone resort development ..On the positive side, yes , hopefully it will force the government to clean up the streets in Sosua ( hasnt happened in Bavaro yet either ) and create much needed employment for the'' Dominican people.'' Ive been able to that on a much smaller scale but atleast I can still see the water lol... But, even If I dont buy anything from you , can I still use your beaches and maybe get a free weekend or two ? lol

Thanks for the clearing words. Any how we are the wrong development to adress your complaints about highrise buildings. We are using just 25% of our property for buildings and are offering 15000 m2 of tropical gardens to our residents. We pay a special attention in conserving the natural beauty of the site with the lowest density in the region. If you would have been to Infiniti Blu, you would have known that we are far from an umbrella stand alone resort. You can definitly use our beaches if you come first to our onsite office.

Dear Infinity blue and Ballarin,
What is with the two of you?

Balarin you need to at least look at something before you condemn it for heavens sake man. It is just one of many condos located in Sosua and the country. It is their land because they bought it from the rightful owner and not yours or anyone elses. They can do what they want with it as long as it is within regulation.

Infinity Blu if I see one other ad to puff your sales that states a 5 year roof guarantee I will puke. It is a NEW BUILDING FOR CHRISTS sake and where I come from 5 year roof guarantee is BS and by law would be responsible for 20 years on that type of construction. Sales must be real bad to puff like that, sorry.

Its nice to see the Association coming to the rescue and I hope they succeed. Cabarete has the potential to being placed on the world stage.
Ian Shembri, who is an architect of this racket, is a known local bully. He is nothing but a public nuisance and should be shut down.
Shembri should stop watching old mafia movies and start putting his energy into what is best for the future of this incredible destination.

Dear Escott

May be you should do a reality check before you get too exited. In other(civilized) countries you get a 20 year roof guarantee because there are professional workers doing the job. Try to get your 20 year roof guarantee from another developer in the DR. We are the only developer offering 5 year roof guarantee because of our regular supervision on site. You might not know but this is really a big deal in the DR.

Nobody is condemning anything Escott. Its only my opinion and its thier property to do with what they want . Im not judging thier motives nor am I discrediting them as a reputable company . But , facts are facts. If its not Infiniti, somebody else will eventually have thier fun .You know as well as I do that this is all a matter of when, not if . Juan Dolio has been billed as the South Beach of the D.R, and the prices and attitudes will reflect that. If you want to see that in every part of the island, have it .
