Santo Domingo. – For the first time in fourteen years a Dominican airline will begin flights to another destination today Monday, after the country lost its international category to do so on a regular schedule.

The carrier Pawa will conduct is inaugural flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico with wide body DC-9 airplanes, marking the normalization of flights by Dominican airlines to and from the United States.

Pawa executives said this date is highly symbolic for the country and Dominican civil aviation, because of the type of airplane which starts regular flights to Puerto Rico.

The flight will cover the route Santo Domingo and San Juan, departing at 11:45 a.m. from the Las Americas International Airport, the airline executives said.

Wide body DC-9? No such bird, unless you are comparing it to a Cessna 172 ! Good luck PAWA. I wish you well.

Took the words right out of my mouth Juango, What the hell is a wide body DC-9? The last DC-9 was built in 1981, and they weren't wide bodies. By the way, didn't we read this story last year ?

If Pawa, or whatever the real name of this airline is, can't get the press release corruptly annotated... I find my confidence slipping seriously.. Now perhaps, we can wonder about the qualifications of pilots, mechanics and the heritage of airframes they are really flying.

Sadly, most Dominicans will be afraid to fly with Dominicana Air, PAWA or whatever they call it

I agree Tony. I am not afraid of flying but I would be shaky getting on a Dominican plane.

What happened to the famed 737 that was supposed to revelutionize DR travel???

That picture (not even a DC9) looks scarier than a 1980's Russian plane!

That is an old 727 ..Dominicana de Aviacion, bankrupt over 20 year ago. the 737 that is to be flying is Air Dominican, a new start-up with 2 planes. Don' know how they will do it...??

A better investment would have been to get back to maintaining the infrastructure. This country depends entirely on its ability to transfer product from place to place. We need another airline about as much as we needed that new train... and that's another disaster.
