Santo Domingo.- A Canadian business leadeer hailed the Tourism Ministry’s decision to motor the development of the town Cabrera, in the country’s northeast, noting that it’s a very attractive area for international investors.

Rebecca McDonald, who built a villa at a cost of more than US$20.0 million in the project Orchid Bay, near Cabrera, said she’s happy with Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia’s interest when he announced the opening of a Projects Planning Office and for visualizing that tourism region’s re-launching.

She also praised the announced construction of a seaside boulevard (malecon), as well as Garcia’s effort with government agencies to solve the zone’s energy and potable water problems. “I’m very happy that you, the Minister of Tourism, are here as part of your interest to draw attention to this place that is so pretty.”

McDonald said she’s been visiting Dominican Republic since around 20 years ago and the land’s beauty and the warmth of its people is what led her to invest in a villa, which serves as lodging for businesspersons, politicians and international personalities who wish to spend some time here.

She added that the Dominican’s gentleness and this land’s beauty have made her promote it to investors and visitors, who enjoy the warm of this Caribbean destination.

Rebecca McDonald,,,Fast Food Queen..??????....no bobody with that name has anything to do with fast food McDonalds unless she is married to Ronald McDonald...the Kroc Family and its foundation are controlling interests in the Fast Food Giant ....This woman with some cash may have purchased some shares However that does not qualify her as fast food queen although she looks like she has put away a few big Macs

Mr.Dobbs has it right, though I am not sure she has ever purchased shares in that company let alone if she ever ate in one of those "restaurants". She is involved in Canada's energy business. You folks need to get the information correct. The material regarding her interests in tourism is true but mainly as a pathway to getting the infrastrucure of her neighborhood improved. Good luck to her and the horse she road in on.

This is another example of an incorrect assumption that along with dubious translations can lead to irrelevant comments ..I agree that Cabrera is a wonderful place with a great small hotel nearby , la Catolina , one of the best golf courses to be found anywhere and a beautiful but treacherous beach the prices are far less than in the south east , the rainfall more generous and all in all a great place. But orchid Bay never seems to have taken off and I have noticed elsewhere that many residents from overseas have written about continual thefts .

).................We don't need fast foods in DR we got Platano, Yuca, Salchi-chong .LOL

Sal chi Chong? What is that? a new kind of Chinese fried rice? or is he the brother of Connie Chong who also happens to be half Italian? Sal (short for Salvatore) C. Chong

Anyway don't worry, if Dominicans resist the introduction of fast foods, Micky D will figure out a way to appease Dominican palates. I am sure they will come up with a way to make: Mcplatano, Mcyuca, Mctostones, Mcmagu, Mcchivo, Mcsancocho etc. etc. KFC in Miami added Black Beans and White rice to to their menu as a side dish to their Kentucky style fried chicken. Capitalist will always find ways to help you part with your money.

She is more then just an outstanding women. She is greater then Great, a true contribution to the cabrera area. She is the kind of foreigner Dominican Republic needs. I just hope that we can attract similar people to counter balance the negative effects of the other thousands of foreign persona-non-grata which have gain hold of every knook and cranny of Dominican society.

guillermore, I second that. Unfortunately, without infrastructure (roads, power & water utilities, educated public servant, modern telecom, etc) the DR has little hope of attracting these people. It is more likely to attract Russian Mafiasos, Well-to-do Conmen, etc., exactly opposite of what is required for a developing country, such as the DR.

NOTE to all you that like to pontificate without knowing anything.

Notice how easy it was for La Linda to find very basic information. If you go to www.google.com and put the name in it is the first thing that comes up. It takes a total of about 30 seconds.

I'm not saying that Google is the bearer of all knowledge. One also has to evaluate the sources, do some analysis, and check alternative sources but FRICK! aren't you embarrased that you don't even demonstrate the capacity to do the very least before you stat whining off on whatever ignorant agende you have picked to justify your failed existence?!?

MG you should see that the error was picked up immediately by most readers here ....many articles appear here without the source being recorded and many articles have incorrect translations or are added to incorrectly ..to the credit of writers , these errors are picked up or the article is querie .
Sometimes after reading the daily papers here and reading news elsewhere, I can not believe the condensation that appears here ...Nevertheless , we all have a good opportunity here to give our views on many subjects , the most pressing being the dealing with government corruption

As a home owner in La Vereda, less than 3 mile down the road from Orchid Bay We have been coming to The Dominican Republic since 1985. Cabrera is a wonderful place with beautiful homes in the surrounding areas including Los Farallones. Its beaches are beautiful and hosts an 18 hole golf course in Playa Grande. Orchid Bay is very beautiful, and its gated making it safe for its home owners. While infrastructure is a growing concern for the country there are other problems such as in the construction industry. this is a big problem here for foreigners like myself & my husband who have spent our life savings in renovations to our house and yet its still not livable. We want to help others avoid the pitfalls of investing in their retirement home here. Ms. McDonald is a true contribution to the Cabrera area more investosrs like her are needed here for further growth of the North Coast area of the D.R. Orchid Bay, Cabrera is honored to have Ms McDonald as one of their resident.

Besides having a recognizable last name, I don't know what brought on the Micky D references. Had to re-read it to make sure I didn't miss something. One thing for sure, I bet she will be paying her light bill which is more than you can say for half the country!
Seriously people, why all the hate? the project will be creating jobs and fueling tourism which brings cash into the country.
And people make themselves fat for making bad eating choices and not exercising.
I live in NY and have not stepped in a burger king/Micky d/ white castle or whatever in years! and last year when I went to a Wendy's with my niece ,got a salad and baked potato. you try to make the healthier choice.
