Santo Domingo. – Despite the tourism sector’s decline measured by the arrival of nonresident nationals and visitors foreign by air, the fall has only been during the last year, because when compared with the last decade’s figures it reveals a constant growth.

Until July 2,539,409 nonresident nationals and foreigners (tourists) visited the country, a fall of -2.4% compared with the first seven months of 2008.

However 1.3% more tourists arrived this year than in the same 2007 period; 0.5% more than in 2006 and 10.2% more than in 2005, affirming that this year’s fall is temporary, sparked by the global financial crisis, especially the United States, the country’s main source of visitors.

Yes definitely trending upwards wtiha slight blip down this year. However it could be that those arriving are spending more, staying longer. Many hotesl are fully booked - it could be that the less attractive locations are notiicing the blip most.

Like I always say... they need to lower the ticket prices from USA to DR. It seems like the only way that you can get a cheap flight is if you live in FT Lauderdale and fly spirit. But wait, they still rape you because they charge $20+ for each bag that is checked in each way! You can add an extra $80 to you round trip costs

The North Coast , Juan Dolio, Boca Chica, La Romana, are all very quiet. But the traveling agencies and airlines are not helping, the prices are very high.

The flights from Canada a super expensive, my mom came to visit me and a flight to Santo Do. was 800$ from Burlington and 1200$ from Montreal. ( I am not talking direct flight).
