Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry and the Foundation Carso Los Haitises-Funkarst on Thursday signed an agreement to co-manage the embattled Los Haitises National Park during five 5 years.

This agreement signed by Environment Minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal and Funkarst president Frank Rainieri –head of the resort Punta Cana, is part of the Ministry’s program to integrate the different social sectors to the defense of the natural resources and to manage protected areas, including Pico Diego de Ocampo (Santiago), Cabo Cabrón (Samaná), Cordillera Central, Cachón de la Rubia and the Botanical Gardens(Santo Domingo).

The agreement stipulates that Funkarst on will not be able to sign agreements with third parties to develop programs and projects, or issue permits, concessions or contracts for services, research, bio-prospecting or exploit the protected area’s natural resources without the previous consensus with, and communication to Environment.

If Rainieri is involved, expect changes.

He isn't much of a bird-watcher or tree-hugger.

He'll turn the place into a money-making machine.

Sounds good, i see this as a big chance to develop more ecotourism in Los Haitises, this will also, eventually benefit the stakeholders, as well as the surroundings communities.

Frank Rainieri is a true altruist for those who know him and seen him in action, This poster has had the privilage to meet with him and assist other activists with community programs and works he supports. He will take this charge wholeheartedly and the park will benefit.

I don't trust anybody, so I am hoping that this won't turn into another attempt to destroy Los Haitises, because if it is. I'm the first one flying back home to protest against that.
Come on, we have one, if not the most, beautiful country in the world! Let's protect what we have and stop pleasing the f*ing foreigners

This is how it works... a little cabana here, one there, another one or 2, hey screw it 5 more all the way over there. Build a little dirt road connecting the cabanas, and bingo you have the beginning of a privately run resort for all the nature lovers in the world. I wonder how they are going to sneak in a full size pool. You can't sit in the woods for 5 years and not make a profit.
