Santo Domingo.- After overcoming the high seas’ obstacles the winners of the Atlantic Grand Prix 2010 regatta yesterday finally saw the land which the other boats are expected to reach in the next few days.
Enrique Curt, president of the Nautical Club from Spain, said the regatta competitors had set sail from the Port of Jerez in Cadiz Bay, Spain on January 14, as part of the event which also features the solo category, with catamarans and yachts in addition to monohulls.
The boats Macaco and the Nov Sixth Cheyenne were the first to arrive at the Bartolome Colon Docks, in Sans Soucí Port, site of the welcome ceremony for the navigators.
The promoters who staged the event, sponsored by the Tourism Ministry, Sans Soucí Port, Brugal, Presidente Beer, Pellerano Productions and El Catador, said it aims to unite Spain and the Dominican Republic with a 3,800 nautical mile sport competition, in which Pillar Pasanu was the only woman among the sailors, and who crossed the Atlantic alone.

Great event but poor scheduling. What yachtsman would want to leave Spain when the America's Cup is going on?

Lets see, AC, Volvo Ocean Race, Vendee Globe, Audi Med-Cup, RC44, iShares, Key West, Miami GP, Bacardi Cup, Luis Vuitton, ISAF Sailing World Cup, Olympics, Transat, Sidney-Hobart, Cowes Week, Clipper Around the World, Mini-Transat.................................
Nope.....Not even close.
Just because you have fun at that drink fest in Antigua don't even begin to confuse that with serious Yachting.
And I don't man a "coffee" grinder(Nobody calls it that. The correct term is grinder.). You find me either at the helm or next to the helmsman as a tactician.

Tonyc the " mouth of the south " says poor scheduling ? on whose part ? Litigation stalled the Cup until November in court and believe me you poseur all the yachtsman will fly into whichever island on private jets when they are finished freezing in Valencia for which ever Leg of the Caribbean Race Circuit they wish to be in .....So Mr serious yachtsman go suck an egg .... see you at Jumby Bay ..

Blutarsky,
Please spare me the luxo-yachtsman spiel. After the AC the real racers will be in Miami for the Grand Prix. Then if the want to have fun they will head down to the Caribbean to do some one-handed sailing(The other hand holds the drink)
Now excuse me I am off to downtown for Strictly Sail.
