Milan.- The Minister of Tourism signed agreements to bolster cooperation with major Italian tour operators and airlines, to strengthen and expand the diversity of the Dominican Republic destination in that European nation.

Francisco Javier Garcia signed agreements with Nardo Filipetti, president of Eden Viaggi; Franco Pecci, head of the Blue-Panorama charter airline; and executives of the Alpitourworld group, to boost the number of travelers to the Dominican Republic.

He said his visit to Italy, where he took part in the 30th International Tourism Market (BIT-2010), is the starting point for the arrival of Italian tourists to Dominican Republic resumes its previous leadership. “We want Italian tourists to visit us, to observe the important investments the government and the private sector have made in the tourism regions such as Samaná, Puerto Plata, Bavaro and Punta Cana.”

Garcia said the designation of Santo Domingo as the American Culture Capital in 2010 is another added value to the Dominican destination.

More tourist, more jobs for foreigners, Dominicans don't get these jobs, cheap labol=better bottom line that's it; and there's the government on the sideline like Spike Lee doing nothing to favor the working class Dominicans. I think Spike Lee does a better job than our government when it comes to rooting for their own.

They also retire early on good pensions and spend a lot of time at university.
Italians retire at 57 ( state pension age ) so they have lots of time for the beautiful beaches of the DR.
Sounds as if the DR is on the right tack for more Italian tourists.

Minister of TOurism should stop with the confusion with names, like Bavaro and Punta Cana.

When he says "Bavaro" does he thinks from Villas Bavaro to Cortecito, and when he says "Punta Cana", does he thinks about Punta Cana Resort and Club?

Maybe Minister of Tourism should put asphalt roads, street lights and sidewalks in Bavaro and Punta Cana. Then you can ask for higher salary when everything is clean and in order, otherwise it will look like Hoyo or Veron.

More tourists - more jobs for Dominicans.
Does more tourists means more asphalt roads?

MS_Jersey,

You nailed it......so true, I agree.

At the rate the DR is going and the way I see it, soon our Island will be foreign owned and ran.

Take care.

Maybe give them Italian names - but probably a mistake in journalists transcription.

Lido de Venice would be good - this is a cool place.

It is up to Dominicans - they can change nationality laws - they can insist that the majority of any company directors are Dominican etc. Also that Dominicans be given preference for jobs etc.

I have a friend that works and live in Bavaro and he told me, that not to many dominicans work there anymore, the area is been invaded by argentinians, haitians and so many other countries, Hoteliers are looking for cheap lavor in their benefit.
HOW ARE GOING TO SEE BENEFITS FROM THAT TO THE REST OF THE NATION?
