Constanza, Dominican Republic.- Environment Minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal and Valle Nuevo National Park director Rosa Bonetti de Santana inaugurated the park Visitors’ Center, located in La Piramide, Constanza.

The center includes a museum with images on the park’s conserved objects and the threats against them, featuring the varieties of flora and fauna unique to Valle Nuevo, its rivers, geologic formation and the climate’s seasonal characteristics.

The center seeks to make it easy for the park’s visitors to interpret the resources, Bonetti said, and proposed an integral project in three stages to manage sustainable tourism, ways to produce income to conserve it and improve the local communities’ living conditions, as well as to install the infrastructure and efficient systems needed to monitor and protect it.

Fernandez Mirabal and Bonetti spoke during a ceremony to receive a group of youngsters who made the "Route of Caamaño," led by Claudio Caamaño, one of the guerrillas who came with the failed expedition led by colonel Francisco Caamaño in 1973 in Constanza’s mountains.
