Santo Domingo.- Around 150 police agents will be assigned to Santo Domingo´s seaside boulevard Malecon, where they´ll patrol to guarantte security for visitors, said National District mayor Roberto Salcedo and Police chief Rafael Guzmán.
The Police Chief said more than 130 agents will patrol the Malecon´s 12 kilometers aboard six vehicles and two motorcycles, while Salcedo revealed that a safety circuit will be implemented aimed at boosting the visitors´confidence.
Salcedo spoke together with Guzmán in a press conference in the Plaza Juan Baron, said a call for tenders starts this week to install street lighting in the entire zone and that measures to be disclosed next week will be taken in the Malecon to lower the risk pedestrians face from the many vehicles traveling at high speeds.

I do not know how many police are in the country but I can remember when ever it is the holidays the government will talk about an extra 10000 cops on the streets. SO lets just look at that number. That means 1 cop for every 1000 people. Where I live in Villa Faro my street has maybe 500 people over an area of 6 blocks. So that means with 21- eight hour shifts a week and cops working 40 hours you would need 4 cops to have 24/7 coverage but lets throw in one more. Just for giggle. So 5 streets six blocks long would be the beat for one cops for 24/7 beat. Now give him partner and then you have 10 streets 24/7 coverage. Now if these cops are walking the beat I should see them walk in front of my house at least 1 time every 90 minutes.
That alone would slow down a lot of problems and garner respect from the population.
Now with out knowing the proper number of cops and with use the military also what would that do.

I had them stop me once for a shake down because I have an SUV full of household stuff leaving the store. That time BTW way my wife( GF at the time) started screaming all I want to do is start a good life and these jerks are going to scare him off and a crowd gathered around and started yelling at the police and police asks us to just leave so the crowd would disperse.
A few years ago there was joint police military patrols because the police were involved in like 60% of the crimes.
