Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic has experienced a growth in the number of tourist arrivals for nine straight months and reaffirms itself as the leading tourist destination in the Caribbean.

According to Arturo Villanueva of the National Hotels and Restaurants Association (Asonahores), the flow of tourists to the country has increased as a result of advertising campaigns overseas sponsored by both public and private sources.

i have been in the capital for the past 2 nights, and had trouble finding a room as all the hotels were very full ...I am told by several agents , who are friends, that the Bavaro /Punta Cana area is very busy even now in the off season ..
Seems to me when I look at the advertising for the DR on the television that over 90% is for the east and the capital ...seldom see anything about the north except for some scenes from Cabarete .

Investment has proably not kept up with market trends.
Also in the case of PP too much traffic and no pedestrian precincts or good public transport for a large resort.

Juan Dolio has only a few bigger style hotels but quite a few smaller hotels but now the emphasis is definitely on apartments for overseas owners and those living in the capital ,many are projects of the Metro Group ..I personally think it is a good mix there

The DR should concentrate on the tourist, vacationer The Dominican republic has no infrastructure in the resort areas. I think the only way to go is large all inclusive new hotels. Plus the need to start teaching English in all schools, so as to accommodate the tourist industry.

All these large condos are empty Monday to Friday its a ghost town in Juan Dolio.

We can not have every beach resort only with AI hotels and I am sure Metro has done their market research ..the condos were all sold pre construction in the first 2 phases . There has to be an beach area relatively close to the capital where Dominicans can spend their week ends in their own beach home .

Need to teach French, German, Russian too.
