Santo Domingo.- Government officials, journalists, the media and the private sector as well need to participate in the process to improve our country as tourism destination, Tourism vice minister Radhamés Martinez Aponte affirmed Thursday.
“We’re in a process in which we want to improve our Dominican destination which is in a process of change towards quality,” the official said, and stressed that it requires the participation of the various sectors at the high levels to “create awareness in the press to be truthful as to what occurs and become faithful conveyors of Dominican society’s feeling.”
Martinez spoke in the event to announce the staging for the 7th Version of the Epifanio Lantígua Tourism Journalism Prize, sponsored Occidentals Hotels, the Dominican Tourism Press Association (Adompretur), and the Tourism Ministry.
The deadline to submit the works to participate in the contest is August 13, and received in the reception of the Occidental Hotel El Embajador.
“It’s important that journalists understand the role they play by showcasing the Dominican Republic’s attractions but also writing with critical eye,” said the official, who is also an honorary member of Adompretur.

Good luck, try to turn a sows ear into silk.
There are much better areas available where they actually care about you as a tourist.
Continue with your low end tourist at least that market is secure.
Before anyone says anything I go to the DR on business, would I go there for holidays? No never.

Doesn't everybody want to come to visit a place where you have to be afraid of the Police.

Give out garbage bags to all the politicians so that they can clean up the streets as an example of how committed they are to this project. The place is a pig sty.

wow Just shows how the Dominican mind works ..just look at these postings Who needs enemies when there are enough within .
Punta Cana and Bavaro have some wonderful hotels at various standards where everyone can enjoy Presidente, chicas and beautiful beaches ;The service is delightfully Dominican where you are never too certain of anything of arriving as ordered .If you want service as in the French Riviera, Bermuda, Hawaii , well go there but in the DR ,most things are Dominican . If you are young and a surfie , then go to Cabarete for some of the best water sports in the country .
If you are into golf, then the DR is the best country in the Caribbean for this and cheaper than many other countries
Just one reminder ,,Dominicans are not Americans, not European, not Asian ,,they are a very unique people with different notions of what is important and what is not ..so best go the Dominican way when you are in the DR and enjoy the beer, chicas, bacharta and the casualness.

http://blogs.orange.co.uk/tv/2010....inican-republic-tenerife-bbc.htmlLast night's opening episode saw presenter Matt Allwright - whose style owes more to Shane Richie than Roger Cook - send the affable Woods family from Dunstable off to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. Their mission? To discover if recent shocking reports of dodgy plumbing, disgusting food and deafening late-night music were true. (They were.)

yes needless to say the AI resort was at Playa Dorada at Puerta Plata ,,,and they wonder why there is no business in Puerta Plata when Punta Cana- Bavaro is virtually full , I think this story proves a point very well.

Many local hotels are full and of a high standard here in Las Terrenas. New hotels are being built and the popularity of the DR is sure to increase. It could be a good idea if there were random inspection of kitchens by government inspectors.
