Samana, Dominican Republic.- Samana hoteliers say they are happy with the pace of the works on the road to the peninsula’s easternmost town Las Galeras and affirm that the access will help develop the destination’s tourism activity even more.
Amhsa Marina Hotels chain president Luis Lopez said out the roadway channel being built by the Government in the zone is a great support for the hotel sector investments and will spur the peninsula’s economy as well.
The work, which forms part of the Tourism Boulevard of the Atlantic being built at a cost of more than US$160 million, is expected to modernize the Nagua-Sanchez-Samaná-Las Terrenas road grid, linking all of the tourism destinations in the country’s northeast.
The work features the reconstruction of 99 kilometers of highway from Nagua to Las Terrenas and 24 kilometers from there to El Catey International Airport, and conducted simultaneously along the sections an exotic tropical landscape where coconut groves fade into the mountains.
Lopez also hailed the progress in the construction of the roadside ditches, concrete barriers in various zones and the maintenance to guarantee the flow of traffic.
The hotelier said he’s confident with the works and affirmed that they complement private sector investments for Samana’s definitive launch as the Caribbean’s most complete and attractive tourism destination. “A services infrastructure is being built in keeping with this paradisiacal region’s requirements, where ecological and sun and beach tourism are offered to the visitor, conjugated in natural and cultural manifestations of incalculable value.”

The acess to Samana improved greatly with the new highway from Las Americas, unfortunately it has caused so many death due to the many curves and hills and probably lack of speed enforcement in the area.
The old road was time consuming and plagued with dangerous potholes, cows, bikes, and the posibility of asaults if you were stranded due to a car malfunction.
Samana is developing fast but still has plenty to go before it can be all it can
