Santo Domingo.- The Santo Domingo Hotels Association and the Tourism Ministry announced Wednesday that the streetlights along the seaside boulevard Malecon will be restored, as well as the relaunch of the Colonial Zone and the shopping street Conde Peatonal.

They also announced the increase of Police patrols, during a meeting with the new Tourism Police director Pedro Cáceres Chestaro.

Also present in the meeting were Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia, National District Prosecutor Alejandro Moscoso, State-owned Power Companies CEO Celso Marranzini, and Santo Domingo mayor Roberto Salcedo, among others.

Marranzini pledged to provide all the necessary support for the streetlights, which has been a constant demand by locals who visit the Malecon with their families.

Thanks juanb.

Now you get a bunch of tourists and they are enjoying the security of all those light.

What is going to happen when those lights go out? Now DO NOT tell me it won't happen.

The DR electrical sector is NON existent.

These people are morons. You do not have the infrastructure to support lights let alone new lights. These people cannot think past the end of their noses.

There is nothing to buy in the Conde and DR ruin Malecon by closing down the resturants and or businesses on Gorge Washington Ave at Midnight.

Shouldn't be that difficult to fix some lights in a main part of a capital city...the fact that this is even making news is troubling...

I wonder will they use solar panels for the lighting really less to maintain and no installation required the place with so much sun all public lighting should be run on salar energy, anly problem theft but with incorporated alarmsystems will be sufficient
