SANTO DOMINGO.- The country’s 48 year old icon abbreviation Asonahores has become the Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association, and will still include the restaurants.

In its assembly in July the organization decided to include to all businesses and players in the Dominican tourism sector, but keeping the Asonahores name created in1962.

In her speech as outgoing Asonahores president, Haydée Kuret affirmed that among Asonahores’ most important advances in the last two years has been its opening to assume “an agglutinating role for all of the tourism industry’s segments,” for which in July the organization amended the statutes to allow membership to other entities in the tourism industry.

She said the hotel organization already forms part of the Dominican Restaurants Association (ADERES), the Fast Food Restaurants Association (ADECOR), the Tourism Real Estate Projects Association (ADETI), the Dominican Airports Association and the Ports and Marinas Association. “Others will follow this example during the next few months.”

What I find as a bit funny is that they all want to have "ENGLISH NAMES" but do everything related to the business in Spanish.

Kind of like the newspaper here in Bavaro....called Bavaro News...nice English name...yet all the text beyond the name is in Spanish! ou would never know it.

The highest number of visitors to this country are English speaking...but perhaps I see another opportunity!!!!....hmmmm

If this area wishes to attract business from the mainland, it must first commit to a wee bit of English in its promotion and media.

PuntaCanaMike.

The names as you see it here are a translation of the actual Spanish name since this is an English publication. The actual names are:

1. Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana
2. Asociación Dominicana de Restaurantes (ADERES)
3. Asociación de Restaurantes de Comida Rápida (ADECOR)
4. Asociación de Proyectos Turísticos Inmobiliarios (ADETI)

Sure.

Right after the US "goes Metric".

That was supposed to happen in 1976 but since most adults in the US either failed physics or never took it the plan fell through. I wonder how long it's going to take us to learn Mandarin and master eating with chopsticks....

I don't go to the DR to read English newspapers.
