Santo Domingo.- This year’s 235 works submitted to compete for the “Epifanio Lantigua” Tourism Journalism Prize sets a record, and deal with topics relating to Dominican Republic’s leading industry.

This number tops last year’s 154 journalistic vying for the awards organized by Occidental Hotels & Resorts and the Dominican Tourism Press Association (ADOMPRETUR), to raise funds for the Juan Luis Guerra Foundation.

The winners will be awarded during the “Gala Tourism Media Dinner” hosted by Occidental Hotels & Resorts and ADOMPRETUR at 8 p.m. on September 16 in Santo Domingo’s Occidental Hotel El Embajador.

Other sponsors include the Tourism Ministry, Vicini, American Airlines, Dominican National Brewery, Information and Communication Center (CICOM), Banco Popular, Puntacana Group, Orange Dominicana, Banco de Reserves, Omar CD´s System, Prosonidos, Inventivar, Skene, and the Foundation Jose Ignacio Morales (El Artistico).

I hope they use some of the copy at the Tourism Dept and give credit by printing the authors name ....That would inspire them

The prize should be to write a genuine article on the state of teh Domnican Republic - corruption, drugs etc . Does the award for the best peice of investigative journalism get the same support?
