Santo Domingo.- More than half of Dominican Today readers say that what has halted the vast southern region’s tourism development is the influence of corrupt government officials.

Asked to respond to a DT poll on the topic, the voting was 54% for the response “Corrupt government officials,” with 176 of the ballots cast, while in second place was “Give it time, it will come,” with 60 votes, for 19%.

In third place was the response “Too much red tape,” with 56 votes (17%), while “It has nothing new to offer” had 20 votes or 6% of the 325 readers who took part in the unscientific poll.

The fewest readers agreed with the response “Lack of good beaches,” (13 votes or 4%), which reveals the majority’s awareness that the Southern region has many good beaches, including the country’s most exotic, Bahia de la Aguilas.

I have a construction project in the Colonial Zone, and every day is a problem with the government, and including the tourist police. With all the headaches, you would think, I do not have the required permits, but I have all of the permits that one is required. Many days I want to give up, I am just so tired of all the corruption. I create many jobs, and a lot of money goes into the community, but the government does not care. These dummies only care about themselves. But I have told them now, I am done giving any money to anyone. I now tell them, you need more money get another job, and if two jobs don’t do it, get three. This excuse that they do not make enough money is BS. With their excuse, then we all should be crooks. Most businessmen from the USA would have left long time ago. Years past, there was respect and now there is zero.

The Government say’s tourism is up 4%, what tourism there is none. They are saying this for the banks and IMF purpose. They do not want to scare the pocketbooks of those who have given money to DR.

Speaking of tourism lets reflect on this before we start planting more resorts in the ground without transparent environmental impact studies:

Wikileaks:

USA highlights that the expansion of tourism in the East contaminates water

The damage, according to a study by International Resources Group, covers from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.- largest area developed for tourism, the Southeast, faces a serious problem of pollution of the sources of their drinking water, due to the concentration of hotels and other tourist facilities, and the fear of the Dominican State has of putting pressure on the industry to set a limit in of water usage per guest.

The report also indicates that, according to the National Institute of potable water and sewerage (INAPA) in several provinces of the northern region there are serious problems of access to drinking water in poor neighborhoods and rural communities.

The American Embassy indicates that work on solving the problem of drinking water, USAID prefers to deal directly with the organized communities, because it does not trust the INAPA, due to its alleged inefficiency.

The reason why there is less foreign investment in the DR is the corruption.

===========================

Then my friend leave, let the tourism go. let the foreign investment go and Dominican idiots will begin to realize who's at fault.

It is why I would like Cuba to open its door, open competition, so Tourism and foreign investment can drop.

So Dr can go into a spiral of economic depression and all the fools can begin the blame game. Dominican society as a whole including the diaspora is responsible for this.

bottom line Dominican are just too stupid to do the right thing.

The reason why there is less foreign investment in the DR is the corruption: The DR Government needs to give a good example by putting in jail the crooks and liars such as ILONKA CASTILLO, brother BORIS CASTILLO and family who stole money and savings from many investors in DR.
