PRESS RELEASE

Santo Domingo.- American Airlines, founding partner of the global alliance oneworld®, announced that it’s expanding its service to Dominican Republic, increasing the number of daily flights between Miami and Santo Domingo and Miami and Punta Cana, and incorporating an aircraft with higher capacity for passengers in the Santo Domingo to New York route.

Starting December 2, American added a new frequency to the flight to Miami International Airport (MINE) from Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport (AILA).

With this new frequency the airline offers flights in the route four times each day. American uses Boeing 757 aircraft with a capacity for 188 passengers and Boeing 767 with a capacity for 225 passengers in this route.

The airline also added a new frequency to Miami from the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) during the high season, offering the route three times per day. In this route American uses Boeing 737 airplanes with a capacity for 160 passengers.

It said it also incorporates the Boeing 777 aircraft with capacity for 246 passengers from the AILA to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. With the inclusion of this airplane guarantees a higher freight capacity for passengers.

The information was provided by AA Dominican Republic general director Mr. Oliver Bojos, who stressed the airline’s commitment to supply the travel needs of its passengers when offering more convenience and flight options. “We are sure that these additional flights and airplanes with a higher capacity will be very attractive, mainly in this time of holidays, where hundreds of national and foreign passengers travel between both countries to pass then together with their relatives as is the tradition of Dominicans.”

They can add all the fights they want. American Airlines lost me as a customer. They need to think about customer service first, before offering more flights. They now charge you additionaly, for window and aisle seating. No counter or baggage service and they want to break the backs of the few employees they have left.

A very misleading heading ,,,more flights but less service is probably more correct ,,What has been and still is the problem with AA and the Miami airport especially with arrivals from latin countries.?? they seem to be working hand in glove to make sure the experience at MIA is always a bad one ....huge distances to walk , enormous queues for immigration and customs , difficulty with baggage collection ..and always problems ,,,just a look at SKYTRAX gives some idea what people think of AA and MIA

Customer service? Are you kidding? They lost my bags 4 times! I got them back, but 10 days later on one occasion. 3 cancelled flights and 2 lost connections, and nearly always late departure. They never enforce carry-on luggage restrictions so there is no overhead compartment room left long before the plane is full.
No wonder AA is now under Chapter 11 protection!

Americna Airlines is the worst of the american carriers. They tried to be greedy and monopilize air travel to DR and look at where they are now. Jet Blue Knocked them out the box and is taking over. I think Jet Blue is definitely much better than American.

Well ... how about a couple of good points for AA ...

1. AA has indeed lost my luggage but then had it delivered to my door the next day with the least of hassel.
2. During a vacation sure enough there was a funeral and AA promptly sorted out the details and had me on my way.
3. Yes I have been stuck in Miami on an AA delay and last minute run for your life to make a connection BUT the Pulled Pork at the Cuban Restaurant was awesome ... (I guess this has nothing to do with AA but the delay was not so painful ...)

WestJet into Samana Int'l (AZS) thru Toronto from many other Canadian cities is the best. You can be in Las Terrenas or Cabrera fast and inexpensive! Plus, they know how to treat customers (AA hasn't a clue).

so far I have never had a single problem with American going 8 times a year to DR, the only problem I have encountered is being latecaused by all the carry on bags and luggage the Dominicans try to carry on. If your bag isn't stowed away quickly you are out of luck. They should enforce the one carry on rule to speed up the process instead every family member has two bags and a sack or two to stow. Why not add another bag and stow it below. I have two bags one carry one the other is a 29" with 50 pound capacity for free. The others rape you with a 50 pound bag and other fees. I am happy to pay $12 to insure I have a aisle seat.Numerous airlines fly to Puerto Rico first then to Punta Cana wasting valuable vacation time sitting in a airport

sweetbabyj,
I have yet to find an American airline that enforces carry-on restrictions. Many passengers can barely drag the huge, wheeled suitcases the bring into the cabin, I doubt they could "carry" them anywhere. If you're not in the first couple of groups on board, then forget about finding a space in the overhead locker.
