Santo Domingo. – The Dominican capital’s cruise harbor rocked to the beat of carols and traditional merengue rhythms, to promote in that culture among the locals, with a warm welcome hosted for the passengers of the cruise ship Braemar.

The ship made a call on San Souci Port during the weekend with around 900 tourists from Europe, mostly English, who were received with deals and promotions depicting the season’s activities.

The raucous holiday reception included traditional dances, holiday gifts and tastings of icon Dominican delicacies.

While you fine folks are waiting to disembark in paradise I thought I would help understand some our other local costumes and traditions in this holiday season;

Lie-onel Fernandez extensive pre-election campaign gimmicks cost a poor citizen his life!

"Man dies after being trampled beaten in distribution of baskets by the President"

"LA VEGA (r. Dominicana)- A man died yesterday after he was trampled and beaten during by a mob of people attempting to reach a "Christmas box" in an event headed by President Leonel Fernandez on Monday in a district of this province."

This NARCO-PUNK can't even organize a simply distribution of food without causing chaos and anarchy knowing the misery people are experiencing due to his disastrous 12 years of economic devastation for the vast majority of Dominicans!.

Man, Josean! What is wrong with you, my friend? Here's an article about a cruise ship with lots of foreigners wanting to get a taste of SD and likely, spending a little money....And all you can talk about is gloom and doom! I would think, as a Dominican, you'd be happy for everyone involved and wish for more of the same!!...It's getting to be really annoying to read about you posting the same crap, day in, day out! You need to smoke a join and calm down. All ain't always bad. Once in a while, a nugget is found amongst the dredged up dirt. Sheeesh!

Roy,

I don’t owe myself to the "nice" tourists that come to pat the nice little brown people on the head as if they were on some live anthropological tour. My commitment is to the millions of voiceless Dominicans who even can'y afford to look at the cruise ship and much less can afford the ticket. I am more concerned about the plight of the millions of Dominicans who are watching TV this holiday season and have to explain to their children why the can’t buy them food, clothes and the toys they see on the boob tube.

Those that in desperation for the plight of their children will plan to make passage not on a cruise ships but in yolas to most likely provide a holiday dinner to the sharks.

If that bothers you while your comfortable and cozy smoking your Ganja listening to John Lennon, I am sorry my friend, not for what I say but that you and many others fail to see or feel for the daily suffering of our people are experiencing needlessly and would rather escape in the feel good, almost tourist advertisement that passes for news here on DT.

For those nice tourist that have to see to believe, so you just don’t think this is josean’s “talk about is gloom and doom!”

As Warner Wolf woud say, “Let’s go to the video tape!”

“The handing out of Christmas boxes is evidence of the misery and needs of much of the population”

“SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-Tthe distribution of boxes for the Christmas dinner, made by the President of the Republic, Leonel Fernández, is showing the misery and the needs of those who come to receive the holiday gift of the Government.”

“So far two people have lost their lives, one in La Vega in his eagerness to get one of the boxes, while a guard died by falling off a truck while trying to stop a mob in Barahona”.
Watch the video and see for yourself the results of Lie-onel’s Narco-Marco-Neoliberal 12 years.

These people come, as you said, on an "anthropological tour" This is what they pay good money for; to see new places and faces. This is what ALL tourists come to DR for (unless you're running from the law), to pat "nice little brown people in the head"! and hopefully, to screw their moms!

In one simple sentence you did more to tarnish the image of the country that you claim I "hate" (and by inference you seem to imply you have a monopoly on loving) by calling us a haven for criminals who want to hide out, a haven for prostitution, and that significant number of us making a living from these activities “It's what a lot of Dominicans make their living out of”!

It is you (and others like you) that do more harm to the country by first putting your head in the sand (or may some other location closer to your body) and then when confront with the non- varnished truth you use stereotypes in a feeble attempt to speak up in “defense,” like some type of distorted Paladin, for that which you claim to love.

If you chose as your prerogative to call speaking truth to power and really respecting visitors to our country by treating them as adults by sharing with them truth rather than lying to get their money, “bottled up hostility in you that needs to be vented,” so be it!

It is my “hostile” prerogative to choose to VENTILATE with what I understand to be the true reality of our situation to see if we can clear the air of the government propaganda that 24/7 claims “ALL is WELL” in this Caribbean paradise!

Chile's Subway: the Santiago Metro
Santiago has a very modern, clean, and efficient underground subway system known as the Metro.

Mass Transit
The Metro is an integral part of Santiago's overall public transportation system. The Metro lines are centered in downtown Santiago and spread outward towards the suburbs. A companion bus system known as the Metrobus integrates with the subway stops. These blue buses, similar to the micros, follow routes that go between outlying areas and metro stops.

Metro Routes
The Metro's system of lines and stations is slowly spreading across most of Santiago. The Metro currently has 4 lines in operation and is expanding its system to reach even farther outward from the city center..

Metro Stations
Many of the Metro stations boast beautiful architecture and design. Stations frequently house works of art including paintings and sculptures. The Metro stops are clean, spacious, and easy to navigate.

Cost to Ride the Metro
The Metro system utilizes a varying fare rate based on the time of day you travel. Prices are higher during peak rush hours (7:00-9:00 and 18:00-20:00) and lower in the middle of the day, evenings, and weekends. Fares average around $400 pesos or about $0.75 USD. Discounts are given to students and senior citizens. For current rates, see their fare page (in Spanish).

Experience
My experiences on the Metro were always very positive. The service is clean, safe, and very quick. You may have some trouble during peak travel times. These times bring large crowds and cramped station platforms that quickly fill the subway cars to capacity. However, during non-peak times, the Metro is a pleasure to ride.

Sir or Madam.
For quite some time, one of our posters on your site, named Josean, has been challenging and ridiculing our ethos…. Overtly stating that, all Dominican matters, political and cultural, need be deferred to the garbage bin.
It seems to me, that everyone has a right to post their opinion, as long as that opinion does not harm or undermines our nation’s fair trade and opportunity to compete with other nations. I’m refereeing to tourism and its competition. .. With so many other destinations for the dollars, that can make us or break us, his vile can retard someone’s access to “el pan del dia”.
As a Dominican, I can accept constructive suggestions to build upon. But I cannot accept someone’s bent on malicious postings, just out of hatred for our country. This person, (Josean), isn’t Dominican. He should be banned from our website. He’s bad news.

I bet you still are eating the K rations you bought during Y2K!......Well, yeah, ..So what?

{"By the way I think your irrational Mumbo Jumbo musings, as best expressed in your last paranoid rant ,may be related to your believe that world is going end on 2012 according to the Mayan Calendar."}...

Well, How do you know, it won't?? ...All planets in our system, and Alpha Centauri (our closest star), will align perfectly to create a gravity well that'll cause our earth to jut out off orbit , with unknown and unfathomable results. You're the crazy one to think this is just coincidence and nothing will happen! You moron!

{Or it could be all that Ganja you did over the years (as you claim) might have been laced with angel dust}......I don't do dust, man!

¿Te sigo mondando?.. Que's eso?
