Santo Domingo.– Dominicans who want to visit Haiti no longer need to obtain a visa to travel to the neighboring country, according to an initiative of Haiti´s minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Lamothe.

The measure, which also benefits Colombian and Panamanian citizens, is part of the government policy to facilitate foreign investment and tourism. "We decided, as of January 10, delete the visa obligation to visit Haiti," Lamothe said during a press conference in Port-au-Prince.

The minister added that these nationals must hold a valid passport with a visa or American or Canadian or Schengen equally valid. The measure is aimed at  encouraging tourists to visit the more than 1,700 kilometers of beaches available in the country.

to visa to visit haiti haha thats a good one, good laugh for the new year, the haitian gov is ran by imbecils, with so many beaches they could be making alot of money off of tourism and it also helps the people by providing millions of jobs, but they rather steal whatever little money comes into haiti instead of making a quick investment that will bring billions in the end.

i need to leave a comment on this very silly article. i am not dominican but boricua married to a cibaeña for more than 20 years.every few years i go with her to visit her family & on one of these trips i went along with my cuñado & their primos to juana mende. we had to pass thru the gate at dajabón. nobody, i mean nobody, on either side of the border, stopped us at all, going or coming, to request any type of I.D. nevertheless, this side trip to haiti was an eye-opener. i saw haitians crossing el rio masacre as if it were an ordinary, routine matter. the lack of sanitation on the haitian side was noticible & quite smelly and the people-rude! i still can't understand why domincans would want to visit the place to buy third-rate, chinese made junk.

Yeah, it is about the only place that we could visit without a Visa.... this is Hilarious... I have known people that cross into Haiti every so often and they did it with just the DR Passport or Driver's license.. never had to show a visa (I guess the visa was a couple of pesos)

Visaul,

One can not ignore that fact man looks for any excuse to justify his hatred towards his fellow man I'm sure you speak of only few Dominicans.

Hatred runs ramped all over this world.

The DR is historically a Christian nation [church of Rome] by man's man made religion with a only a touch of Christianity.

The above picture is Labadie Haiti & that's a Royal Caribean cruise ship @ port . They Have invested 50mil USD between dredging and a new pier so their biggest cruise ship can dock. It's fair to say they do not share the view of Metador and Generroso. Neither do the 1000's of visitors each year who gets to ride the world longest Zip line at Labadie
As far as Haitian needing a visa to visit DR it's just a formality for the Dominican gov to raise revenue for any Any Haitian who can afford the Terra Bus fair is never denied one.

Oh goody, another Xtain nutter joins us!
Visual states "I thought that the D.R. was suppsed to be a christian nation. What happen to thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
Yes, the Dominican Republic is Xtian, hence such high rates of violence and corruption.
Haiti is even more Xtian, with even higher rates of violence and corruption.

"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."?
How about:
"If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through."
Zechariah 13:3

"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction".

Some more to go on with, from your wonderful, loving, forgiving God:

You should not let a sorceress live.
Exodus 22:17

If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.
Leviticus 20:13

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death.
Leviticus 20:27

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.
Exodus 21:15

If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.
Proverbs 20:20

All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. Leviticus 20:9

So where are all you brave Christian defenders of the faith? Never read the inerrant words of your God?
Let me see you defend the following:

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.
Leviticus 20:10

A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.
Leviticus 21:9

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed.
Exodus 22:19

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
2 Chronicles 15:12-13

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through.

Its not a good thing to have a lot of Dominicans without Education with many drugs come here! THE DOMINICAN REP IS THE PLACE OF THE CARIBBEAN WHERE THE VIOLENCE IS VERY HIGH, YOU HAVE MORE VIOLENCE THAN HAITI, LOOK AT THE FIGURES! THE DOMINICANS IS NOT A GOOD NATION, I PREFER THE CUBANS, WE SHARE THE SAME ISLAND BUT THE DOMINICANS IS NOT A FRIEND EVERY DAY I TELL IT TO THE HAITIANS; IS NOT A GOOD THINGS TO ACCEPT THE IDIOTS WHO DON't know HAITI, who critic with hatred, in 2011 THE ECONOMY OF HAITI have grow, the fmi SAY 2012 THE ECONOMY OF HAITI WILL ATTEMPT THE SECOND PLACE BEHING PANAMA, DOMINICANA will be VERY FAR in the ass of the pigs

Kiskeya,

Don't let a couple of semi literate fools get to you. To say Dominicans aren't our friends is false. Go to dr and see your letting people that say things to get a rise out of you win. The earthquake proved Haitians are just misinformed about dominican. Let the bs go its a small island.

Taking one foot forward then 2 steps back.....one never gets ahead.

Pointing a finger and never seeing the 3 pointed right back.

Living in ones past one never sees his future.

Problems....everybody has problems only seeing others problems one then becomes part of the problem and never the solution.
