i hate it when these comparative rankings come out. now, it won´t be long before people who have never been to either Punta Cana, nor any of the other beaches ,begin to express disagreement with the rankings, declaring them to be a conspiracy to demean and marginalise Dominican tourism.

Danny I'll be the first to admit that DR still has a lot of room for improvement in the hospitality arena but punta cana has amazing jaw dropping beaches.

This is a good opportunity to improve.
DR government (Secretaria de Estado de Turismo) and hoteliers must take notes of these inputs, and work in a plan to improve the products and services that drive the travelers to pick their favorite vacation spot. It's amazing to see Cape May, NJ ranked that high being on the Delaware Bay (where Delaware River Mouth and atlantic Ocean meet). The Delaware river runs accross many cities including Philadelphia.

i must agree with perludom in being surprised that Cape May makes this list. i guess it is a matter of taste, but to me, it is no great shakes. i guess the reviewers that gave it such glowing accolades have never left the Eastern seaboard of the USA.

Cape May and Myrtle Beach??? These two beaches are not even in the Top 100 beaches in the U.S, much less among the best in the world. This list is a joke. How much advertising did these places have to purchase to make this list? This list is so bad it takes away any validity to the ratings.

There are hundred's of better beaches in the USA alone than these two jokes listed as the best 2 in America. Mrytle Beach is nothing but the Neon- Red Neck Riveria to those in the States. Perhaps the only beach that is deserving on this list is Providenciales, Turks and Caicos but not sure it is in the Top `10 in the World!?

We are talking about the best beaches in the world for gosh sakes! Get real! The Punta Cana beach is just another beach in the Caribbean. There is nothing special about it. It is not even the best beach in the DR. Seven Mile Beach is also just another touristy beach in Grand Cayman....nothing really special. Go to the South of France.

well spoken, BigBossHoss....even Negril has been spoiled, and is no longer the powerhouse it used to be in the seventies. it is just another good beach in the caribbean. some of the lesser antilles have beaches which will blow it away.

DR is sorrounded by beaches, i preffer the Montecristi side is more quiet and i can enjoy the beach and not have to be in a big crowd.

Cape May?
Myrtle Beach?
How is this list determined?
The beaches of Punta Cana are very nice, but not the best in the DR.
Maybe like elections....only a popularity contest.

Speaking from NJ,being that I pay state taxes why would I pay to get on a dirty HOT glass sand beach..with the dirty water run off from NYC.as for Cape May it's the small knit ALL AMERICAN types that go there for the B&B beach experiance...thats why Punta Cana looks good to me along with Antigua,St Martin, Aruba to name a few

As a gringo who spends a lot of time in the D.R. on business over the past 20 years, I can say the D.R. has improved dramatically. And most of the people are very nice. Yes, there are many things that need improvement, but it is a heck of a lot better, and getting better by the day.
Thank you people of the D.R.!

i will pass that information on to all the people who have no jobs in Puerto Plata, courtesy of the improvements to which he alludes.

Wow, what a believable survey - not!
Apart from the Philippines, all in the Americans (but excluding South America) and most in the Caribbean? None in Asia, Australia, Oceania, Europe or Africa? Maybe the winners are cheep due to their plummeting currencies? Really!

I guess that some of you have some serious standards to mention South Beach or Myrtle Beach: South Beach is man made, the sand came from some place else and the bottom is full of rocks and poor Vegetation; Myrtle Beach the water look like chocolate and the sand is like grounded corn; I have traveled to 27 countries do to my job, and I have a keen eye to say ""Viva Punta Cana"" but do respect other people standars and poor judgement.
