Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.- Playa Dorada Hotels, Condos and Business Association president Roberto Cassoni on Monday called “regrettable” the Government’s and Congress’ attitude as “an unnecessary annoyance by a sector they believe has all the money in the world,” when they seek some concessions, tax break on fuel or fees, to avert their collapse.

The hotelier said the Government’s and Congress’ attitude reveals a lack of understanding of tourism’s importance for the economy and is concerned that the Tourism Ministry isn’t getting the 10 dollars from the tax on tourists, funds he said can be used to promote the country. “Despite the little support from Government and Congress I’m not going to throw in the towel and I’ll continue fighting so the Tourism Ministry seeks a solution to the problem of the vendors and the pedestrian streets.”

Cassoni, quoted by puertoplatahabla.com, affirmed that despite the efforts by the Playa Dorada and Puerto Plata hoteliers to solve the destination’s problems, many still believe that “nothing is being done”.

He added that the Puerto Plata hoteliers will continue fighting to progress from the current and outdated all included hotel model, to the inclusive model for Puerto Plata and the North Coast.

He's so right.

Politikeros don't like to work.

They just want the dough.

who has all the dough? is it the government or the guys in the hotel business?

the taxi drivers did not help at all in this hotel complex, when they saw a gringo they double or 3x's the fare.

any way the gringos only came for the ladies to pop.
as much as many would like to think it was for fun city, or the cable ride... no it was the ladies.
not many pay a airfare to ride a go-cart.

Danny00,
Not all of the "gringos" go there for the loose women (though there are a lot who do). Some of us go there to do business, and build business in the D.R. Personally, I am in the process of setting up a company there which will employ some people at more than three times the usual income there.
Just my two cents.

Bangers don't go to all-inclusive PlayaDo.

They look for smaller places where they can invite their toys.

Hos are not welcome in resorts.

I was unaware that the money from the 10 dollars tourist card was ever earmaked for the tourist industry ,,,and it is crazy to suggest that the government is not aware of the importance of the tourism industry . How can you blame a government in the capital for street problems in Puerta Plata ...that is an issue with the police stationed in Puerta Plata and the council
The problem is that the Playa Dorada tourism area has mainly itself to blame for the current problems ..you only have to read all the complaints made about the hotels and rental apartments and see the run down condition of the establishments .
It seems that at Sosua there is an attempt by the mayor to clean the town up and maybe the local Puerta Plata council needs to move into a higher level of action .

Yes Puerto Plata council, Playa Dorada association and the higher gov'ts need to get together and take action. The people here have suffered enough!

A different model of tourism is required that puts some of the money back into the city. Low paying service jobs and profits being held overseas does not help this area.

HarryG I sent you a private message! Good for you, it is very possible to do both good business here and make money.

The Dominican government ONLY TAKES money not gives money.

They are too stupid for words. I can't wait for there to be no one to steal from.

Cassoni, SHUT UP! Everybody knows that you're pussy whipped. Your wife wears the pants in the family, and you wash and iron them.
