PC will need all the short distance flights they can get , as all European long distance flights will pull out of the DR . AVATUR taxes on Kerosine will cause this .

Cruising at altitude a modern jet uses much less fuel. Taxi, take off and reaching altitude require maximum consumption.

The difference between US and European practice is than many flights from Europe are charters with flights fully consolidated between different tour operators. Load factors are therfore much higher as the airlines pre-sell blocks of seats - they can and do consolidate flights if load factors are not reached,

The US model is much more round scheduled flights with typically lower load factors.

So I would expect flights from Europe starting at 450 - 600 $ return to continue.

The vast majority of tourists have no problem ; just as in London, South of France, Miami or any other tourist area.

Some do things they would not do at home. Rent a room with no security in a downtown area when not travelling 'backpacker style' and numerous other antics.

Yes occasionally there are problems - but if they were in any greater number than elsewhere embassies would issue country warnings and negative advisories.

DR is a great place to vacation - and yes there is a market for tourist traps e.g. Vegas.

If you look on tripadvisor etc. you can see people have a great time at local restaurants, on on excursions, snorkeling, sailing, horseriding, fishing etc.
