Santo Domingo.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia announced Wednesday that the breaks provided by the Customs Agency in the new program to renew tourist taxis will save each driver RD$350,000 per vehicle compared with the local market price.

He said the initiative in its first stage will benefit around 1,000 taxi drivers in the sector’s five associations, and make the service more efficient.

He said the around 2,800 unionized tourist taxi drivers in the country will be able to buy the vehicles with financing through the Progreso and Reservas banks.

Customs chief

Customs director Rafael Camilo said the facilities for tourist taxi owners form part of the Government’s program to renew transport vehicles for all driver unions nationwide.
