Santo Domingo.- In the first half this year 2,000,955 tourists visited the country and spent an estimated US$111 daily during their stay averaging nine nights, says the Central Bank’s latest report on the tourism sector.
It said the tourists spent a total of nearly US$2.9 billion in that period, which according to official figures, led to a 3.7% jump in the daily spending by each tourist, and compared with last year’s average of US$107.
In addition to that income in 2010 were the RD$4.9 billion in revenue from the air and land exit tax, airport fee, and tourist card, while in the first quarter this year visits by foreign tourists climbed 4.31% compared with the same year ago period.

Actually there are 2 wrecks at La Caleta that are pretty cool. When is an old tugboat that was deliberately sunk as an artificial reef.
There are some other interesting dive sites that the small diver groups know about but keep the away from the tourists. Some are actually right under people's noses.
But the Diving in the D.R. isn't nearly as good as there are in other Caribbean destinations.

Tourist spent more at 3.7%......could this account for higher prices ?
From: United States
actually, riosm, that is a good observation. the 3.7% means nothing, unless all other things remain equal. so, if the value of the dollar delines, and there is inflation in the economy, the conditions could be less advantageous than they were the same time last year.

Domincan officals are so used to lying and printing false information that it is impossible to get any correct information. The only information that is correct is that Domincan politicians are corrupt and that it is an ibred philosophy.

Actually it's the higher prices that account for the increased spending.
Tourists are buying the same stuff they always did. It just costs 3.7% more.

IT CAN'T BE THE TRUTH.

The taxes are fine.. and should increase incrementally (per inflation) limits Euro trash and likewise from the US..The Canadians will come regardless - as long as Cuba is as is.
what should be analyzed is "how can we (DR's) get more money out of their respective pockets" :)

No, no more fees for Americans!
From: United States
You cant believe anything you hear from a DR minister. Things cost more and judging by the far fewer flights there can't be as many tourists coming. If there are less flights and less ships coming how are these tourists all getting here? What a typical load of bs.

i dont mean to start anything but danny00 where the hell are you from? everytime i read all of your comments, they involve bashing the DR and what's even more depressing is your grammar and the fact that you always have something negative to say--even in a positive article.
