London.– British Airways has compiled its top 13 destinations to visit in 2013 as a result of poll on the airline's Facebook page. Over 2,660 users nominated the overseas destinations they most want to visit next year and the Dominican Republic made the list.

New York topped the list (22 per cent), followed by Australia (eight per cent), Hong Kong (seven per cent), Rio de Janeiro (five per cent) and Dubai (three per cent).

Holidays in Dominican Republic are emerging as a must do, especially in Punta Cana on the south coast. Ash van Wensveen, British Airways' destination manager, said: "People are really waking up to Punta Cana. There's a real buzz from holidaymakers creating word of mouth on its affordability, fabulous hotels and beaches that dip into the Caribbean Sea."

Not so Roy . I have seen many travel agency windows with many picures all about the DR and as BA has now added many more flights here ,it seems that the Brits do know about us. The Caribbean has long been a favourite place for the British wealthy but now it has become a favourite for the masses also . It is amazing ,if you look at a BA brochure how little difference in price there is between going to Spain or to the DR .
And please do not say you do not love it here..you would find Melbourne a total bore if you returned.

Perhaps. Ricky,
However English-speaking islands have a distinct advantage over others in the Caribbean, when it comes to anglophonic tourists.

yes, they do have an advantage but this is outweighed by the fact that most people in the PC hotels speak sufficient english and that we are a latin country with all that conjures up ..

The distinguishing features of Dominican resorts are poor service on the inside and bad roads, rubbish and crime on the outside. Hence the low return rate.

That is simply not the case in Punta Cana or Bayahibe or in CDC..There are many great hotels in both places with good service, good roads and which are safe outside . I think Roy that you need to spend more time in both places to see that your generalisation is flawed.

British Airways = supply and demand----Like it or Not; DR is the best destination for families seeking an affordable, safe, and amicable destination.

Then why is the return rate so low, antonio1?

Why are they keep coming back?....Maybe that's irrelevant for the eight economy in LT
