Santo Domingo.- The director of the Dominican Republic's Miss Universe contest revealed in San Juan, Puerto Rico earlier this week that the international pageant is scheduled to be held in the Caribbean country this year, AP reports.
Quoted by The Associated Press, Magaly Febles said the New York-based organization is waiting for Dominican tourism officials to approve its request to hold the pageant there. “She says the country meets all the requirements to host the event, adding that organization officials liked the facilities they toured.”
The organization's 61st pageant is scheduled for December, with Angola native Leila Lopes crowning her successor.
Dominican Republic hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 1977, and won the crown in 2003, wit Amelia Vega.

The tourists and traveling public can expect higher rates and prices for their hotel rooms and air and surface transportation in the weeks prior and during the event as the commercial sector takes advantage of the situation. If you expect to be traveling and vacationing in the DR in December, book now.
I don't know why they are doing this, bringing in these foreign beauties is going to saturate the existing market of Dominican beauties. I'm going to get whiplash trying to get a view of them all. My neck is sore already from the domestic material.

nothing here but very good news and I am guessing that the event will be in the capital where they have a good choice of an auditorium and hotels ..and of course, the second metro will be fully operational then .

We shall then cleaned up the city, especially the Malecon area. collect all the floating debris and brighten up the strip.
We must make a well thought-out, genuine effort to look good to the international viewers. This is a great opportunity to sell the nation to potential tourists and retirees.
There's money to be made. Let's invest a little and make plenty. Many of the poor, (indirectly) can benefit, as well.

An event like this, can bring in mega bucks by showcasing our beautiful side and possibly enticing more tourist and retirees to our beautiful land.

To "fall pregnant" is a common expression in English, meaning to become pregnant. For your information, "English" is a proper noun, hence it begins with a capital letter. I suggest you improve your own English, before being pedantic about others.
Also to suggest someone is Haitian because their English is not perfect, is racist. Some Haitians have perfect English, some not so good, an some none at all - just like Dominicans. The expression "pot calling the kettle black" comes to mind. Look it up.

I admit my negative comments are more numerous than the positive, but that's how I see it, and judging by the news items, so does Dominican Today. It disappoints me to see what this country has become, compared to what it could have been.
