Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.- A herd of manatees’ surprising visit to Playa Dorada’s shores delighted the resort’s employees and guests.

The endangered species can grow as long 13 feet and weigh up to 3,000 pounds. Manatees are typically very playful, live and in river mouths along the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts.

They are also called "sea cows" because they graze quietly on shallow coastal waters, and have a large, cylindrical shape body like a seal, but hairless with thick, tough hide.
