SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia called the tourism industry peace and knowledge, which in his view are elements which go hand in hand, and the key to develop a destination anywhere in the world.
Garcia congratulated the members of Dominican Republic’s hotels and tourism businesses grouped in Asonahores, after a mass the convent of the Dominican Order, to mark in its 50th anniversary.
"The tourism industry is peace, where there’s no peace there’s no tourism, it’s the industry of knowledge because tourists from around the world visit us they come to learn about our culture, our history, our character, but at the same time we also gain knowledge of that same nature, from those who visit us," the official said.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic-The Government of the Netherlands issued a warning to its citizens about the levels of insecurity and crime that are recorded in the Dominican Republic, tourist destination that the Dutch often travel to.
The warning was made following the robbery of a Dutch family by alleged "policemen" and the recent killing of a Dutch woman in Dominican Republic.
The message was featured in the prominent main periodical of Holland, Telegraaf, which also highlights that thousands of Dutch have scheduled their vacation in Dominican Republic in the coming months.

The Dutch Government emphasizes that caution should be taken with greater emphasis on the roads and the night.
According to the American Agency UPI cable, the Dutch are warned to be very careful if they go out of the hotels in the Dominican tourist areas.
The Dutch newspaper underlines that the year past 45,000 Dutch tourists visited Dominican Republic.
