Santo Domingo.-  Haiti is developing with Dominican Republic a proposal which includes Puerto Plata and Cap Haitien as a joint tourism destination, revealed Haiti Tourism Minister Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, for whom the island as a whole can become a powerful tourist attraction for the rest the world.

Cited by listin.com.do, Villedrouin said Haiti is a perfect complement of Dominican Republic’s offer of sun and beach so it can be "extremely" attractive for tourists from other nations, including travel to both countries. “There’s complete harmony in the offering of multi travel with Dominican Republic."

"To cite some examples, the beauty of the work in papier mache in Jacmel, or La Citadelle (the biggest fort of all the Americas) which are unique to our cultural heritage,"

The official will arrive in Santo Domingo Thursday to attend the inaugural of the Caribbean Tourism Exchange (BTC), whose guest of honor this year is Haiti, and will be declared the capital’s "Distinguished Guest."

In the DR we want tourists that come to spend money, not tourists that come to be a burden on the public hospitals, schools, auction themselves for low paying jobs, or beg in street corners.
The DR wants tourists that come to spend, not to add to our problems.
Other than that, the DR welcomes Haiti tourism minister Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, and wishes her a wonderful stay.

To reach for example Jacmel, they need to clean for sure 100 Million tons of garbage just from the street. I do agree Puerto Plata and Cap Haitian could be working on a joint venture, but the rest of Haiti NONONONONO!!!!!!!! Or hospitals need to be constructed, just along the road to treat tourist against poisoning. Which clown could ever promote the south of Haiti??? Don't forget, if you want to visit the south, you need to get trough Port-au-Prince, and there is NO WAY to have tourist driving trough the garbage in this capital. If you think driving in the D.R. is already very difficult, wait until you get to Port-au-Prince, then you learn, Santo Domingo is not bad at all. Driving trough the Haitian capital, don't forget to keep the windows closed, of enjoy the smell passing the market next to the harbor, which you need to pass to reach the south!!!

Dominicana debe hacer : 1ro.

Royal Carebean is heavily invested in the North Coast of Haiti ( Labadie) its part of their seven days cruise. currently there is a new road under construction for day excursion from Labadie to Milot the site of the Palais San Souci & the Citadel, so yes this can work for those are Unesco World Heritage sites.

Jacmel is emerging as an Int'l tourist destination. There is an airport project going on there to make it accessible without dealing with the congestion that is P-au-P.

the culture;the Arts;the people from the south are soo amazing......Oh my God!! When they show you the poor areas of the island that is not all over Haiti my friend trust me.Now i know that Dominicans are very intelligent people but let me ask you this If Haiti was really what they've shown you on TV why are there so many Dominicans;Germans;Italians;Americans;Russians;Canadians etc... living and working in Haiti? Do you have an answer to that my friend? They have been living there since the day that i could remember..! You know nothing about the Southern part of Haiti That's it...!The last Carnival we've had was held in the south and there were many Dominicans there ask them they'll tell you

Hey Beau, lot's of writing, and after reading your site of the story, you don't know what you are talking about. I am not against promoting Haiti for tourists. I am saying it will take lot's of years to get ONLY the infrastructure done to be able to receive tourists. Yes, in the north promotions are on it's way, and that is good so. Even Carnival is investing, and the north is nice. Someone was writing to promote tours to Cap Haitian for example, good idea. Yes the south is nice too, as you are saying have no idea, know my way around all the way to Port Salute, but still you need to get trough P-au-P, and this is not funny at all. Be honest, get going over there, it need a lot of work to be done, and this will take several years, as you also know, P-au-P is not even cleaned up until now from the disaster, so how long it will take to be able to receive tourists? And please let me know where all the foreigners live over there?

Spinach, I don't rely care what you say, it is useless anyway. Yes there are billions of Dollars for reconstruction, waiting over 2 years, just the corrupt government is to stupid to deal with this. Even money would be set free tomorrow, it would take at leased 10 years for infrastructure, if you like it or not, I am from this business, and 10 years is very closed. Anyway your last comment is to fight? What do you want to fight? Hate others is no way out!!! But sitting in Canada and just having a big mouth is easy. Go back where you belong, and fight for nothing!!!

Beau, I agree, Haiti will have a lot to offer, but infrastructure is completely missing., will cost 10 years to fix this, but up until now, no one knows when they will start. Let's hope soon, and lots of Haitians will go back home because there will be sufficient work for them to feed they families. Maybe some day government will care about the people, I wish all of them good luck!!!!

I have been to Haiti and yes there are foreigners living there, but over 97% are composed of relief workers, Christian missionaries, nuns and priets, Cuban doctors, Colombian Drug dealers, Dominican prostitutes, NGO's, members of non-profit organizations, diplomats on temporary assignments, officials from foreign consulates & embassies, UN peace keepers and illegals who enter Haiti from other countries to cross over to the DR and later to Pto Rico. The remaining 2% are international fugitives excaping justice and perhaps 1% may be living in Haiti because of choice or personal reasons. Except for the island of Labardie, bumping into a real tourists in Haiti is like finding a needle in a haystack. They are siimply a breed in extinction.

@Beau-Let us put this in perspective. I know foreign born people live in Haiti and have been there for a long time in particular the Southern of part of the country. I am aware of that and its tourism potential as well. However, you make it sound as if foreigners are flocking into Jacmel as if were the South of France. That is not exactly accurate. Which is quite similar to comments I hear about the existence of white Haitians. Yes, true there is such as thing as "white Haitians" but the numbers are so minute, it is irrelevant. The same applies to foreign born residents of Haiti. It is a small number and the vast majority are not there because of choice, but because they have no choice. It is due to a work assignment or to achieve a personal mission in life, perhaps for personal gain or a benevolent heart. But for now there is an outflow of both native and non-Haitians leaving your country and heading to the DR to seek a better quality of life and a more stable political climate.

Yes, Beau-Again, you make valid points but not within the proper spectrum of things. Except for UN soldiers, the same people who flock to Haiti can also be found in the DR. However, the difference is the DR has people arriving from all over the world including Dominican expats who permanently stay to live in the DR because they want to and not because they have to.

Our family and I are perfect examples of that. As soon as my father was able to do so, he left America and moved back to the DR and vowed never to return. I hold dual residency in both the DR and US and constantly travel back and forth. Part of the year I live in the DR-Nevertheless, I want to clarify that I came to the US as a child, because my parents brought me and not because I had a choice.

Why do some Haitians get so worked up when someone speaks honestly of the situation in Haiti? I can understand that some users leave offensive comments, and you certainly have the right to choose to engage them. However, many seem to also attack even the honest and humble users who never had any hateful intent, all because you dislike the fact that they chose not to sugarcoat the situation in Haiti.

What a clueless idiot! India and Pakistan were separated because Pakistanis are predominantly Muslims, and Indians, Hindus, hence no intermarriage. It was never a unified, independent country - it was a British colony, previously made up of numerous little kingdoms.
By contrast, Haitians and Dominicans are Christians, predominantly Catholic.
